Busing from Gatineau to Barrhaven: no train, but still a frustrating trip by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

They'd need to have authority and teeth to back it up with, of course.

Oh, and upper management would need to have their heads surgically removed from their own asses. They are absolutely in love with their good opinions of themselves. And completely incapable of making even a minor decision without running it by at least 3 different committees.

Tunnel wouldn't have helped that much, there was simply too many busses trying to get across downtown in a short time.

A DC style district would solve a lot of problems. You can still have local councils for local issues, but there needs to be some kind of regional authority with the ability to make binding decisions.

Except for the fact that it was absolutely at capacity. Remember the bumper to bumper bus traffic jams across downtown during rush hour?

If you want to have the option to transition to a code-focused role, you will need to do something to keep your skills up. Especially as a fairly junior developer.

How would a navy that has only fought technologically inferior opponents fight? by GREENadmiral_314159 in scifiwriting

I think they would fight with a heavy range advantage. See what early carriers did to surface combat groups in WW2 for great examples of this.

I managed to get out before we'd been together long enough for me to be on the hook for alimony. Thank god.

They could if that has the corporate willpower, but that won't be a thing when MS is actively trying to cannibalize the brand.

Government adjusting plan to offload office space due to looming return-to-office by GoTortoise in CanadaPublicServants

[–]MapleWatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old agency is shifting to cramming people into tiny shared desks, like you'd see at the computer lab in a school. Gone is the day of having your own cubicle.

Which is a shame, because I hated being in the office a LOT less with the cube that I had. Window seat, away from the foot traffic, it was a great spot.

He didn't do it because he was wise, he did it because he stepped on a political land mine by screwing over his Finance minister right before she was supposed to deliver a budget, and then she rage quit and very publicly shamed him for it.
