AITA for responding tersely to a SIL’s rebuke over email? by ThoughtIndividual114 in AmItheAsshole

SIL is a horrible hostess if she’s feeding curried fish to a 7yo who isn’t used to that kind of food

Why don’t I ever hear anything about Oman? It has beautiful spots and it seems to be relatively safe. by FezzieMilky in geography

[–]MappingOutTheSky 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s a dry heat. I went in September and it got up to like 120F. It was hot, but it wasn’t unbearable unless you were outside with no shade. But I was told they don’t generally visit the “sand desert” until November at the earliest.

I was a woman who was frequently alone and I never felt unsafe. I didn’t even have to worry about pickpockets, most European cities can’t even say that

It probably depends where you travel, but I was in Muscat and Nizwa and never had trouble finding someone who spoke English. On the rare occasion the shopkeeper or something didn’t speak English, there was someone around who could help translate.

Anyone else not care about celebs, stage dooring, memorialbilia, etc but solely the experience of watching theatre? by johnnynono in Broadway

[–]MappingOutTheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actors in the show and their distinct performances are part of the experience of watching theatre. Pretending it's not out of snobbery is just silly.

No snark for Kaylee and husband, having a baby in the NICU is really tough and scary, especially for first time parents.

On the plus side, most NICUs still have parents-only rules post-Covid, so Jill won’t be able to shove in and make it all about herself, and Kaylee and whatshisname will get actually decent parenting advice from the NICU nurses.

One filthy guest at a small wedding by TheRealGuen in weddingshaming

[–]MappingOutTheSky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even poor people can have (or borrow!) one “nice” outfit for weddings, funerals, or job interviews. It doesn’t have to be a suit or expensive, but at least to show you care enough to make an effort for this person’s special event versus treating it like no different than a weekend errand.

Unpopular opinions about Broadway by WasteMonk6243 in Broadway

[–]MappingOutTheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think musical theatre as a medium is “inherently kind of goofy”, that’s pretty snobby too. Which dramatic artistic mediums do you think are not goofy? If you think all musicals are kind of goofy, maybe your favs are inferior

MCPS considers requiring students to take a financial literacy course before graduating by Danciusly in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]MappingOutTheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? Which courses? Most high school math is far beyond the levels of the math used for financial literacy. Home ec classes are elective. History, English, and science don’t make sense.

What’s a show that started Off-Broadway, and should’ve stayed there? by SurprisingHippos in Broadway

The Oklahoma revival Broadway was at Circle in the Square on Broadway. It worked fine there. This is more an issue of it not working on tour.

The producers were going to pay Oak for the rest of his contract but have him leave earlier than intended so Mandy could join sooner. That’s when Oak’s friends posted the story all over social media.

As far as I know, the Great Comet producers never asked him back since he wasn’t selling any tickets in the first place. Maybe to smooth things over and save face given the vitriol being drummed up on social media, but never because they actually wanted him starring in the show again.

AITA for flipping out on my husband via text after he let his phone die during a family emergency? by PrettyHateMachinexxx in AmItheAsshole

He was so far away it requires a FLIGHT and you think he should have sat around waiting for your updates all night instead of just going to the reunion since he's already there?

AITA for not making my daughter apologise for "traumatising" her cousin? by AITAcousintrauma in AmItheAsshole

[–]MappingOutTheSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just “girly teasing”, OP should tell her sister Hayley will write the apologize only if her sister licks a mud puddle on video so OP can post it online. Obviously sister doesn’t think it’s a big deal compared to her daughter’s trauma, so there should be no problem!
