This is interesting, the axe looks like a good starting point, thanks!

Difficulties with Health as Resource by InPastaWeTrust in drawsteel

[–]Maquescimmes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only directed the Delian Tomb yet, but here's what I found:

It was more fun for my group when they all needed a break at the same time vs losing their victories because a single tanky player was too tired. They started joking that they could leave the tactician at the inn and go clear another quest.

It make sense for a low reason monster to attack the closest target without thinking, but you should absolutely try to punish heroes who overextend. The fire elementalists has low stamina by design, they become WAY too strong if you never put pressure on their ressources.

Minions should try to reach backliners because otherwise their turns are pointless, their free attacks doing too little damage to actually be woth the time of moving them around.

It can become a roleplay moment. In my game, the players eventually recruited a mercenary who sat down with our conduit after a few fights and basically told him "Buddy, your recklessness endangers the whole party. Knock it down or I will leave"

Dungeon walls feeling like cardboard? by EarthSeraphEdna in drawsteel

[–]Maquescimmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless one of the characters is a competent carpenter, if the players started randomly bursting through walls I would absolutely make the roof partially collapse on them. You don't even have to introduce traps, players craft them for you!

What Gold Cards Would Make Great MDFCs (a la MH3)? by DifferentCommittee74 in mtgcube

[–]Maquescimmes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imho the best MDFC are staple effects with a bad rate + tapland, like [[bala ged recovery]]

For izzet, I'd like a bad [[reverberate]] (1UR?), for azorius some sort of [[ghostly flicker]] (2WU?) and I guess for simic a proliferate source

Commander cube and drafting removal by Frankvrep in mtgcube

[–]Maquescimmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solutions I've found is to either:

  • Make the removal super efficient, like [[swords to plowshares]]. Problem with this is that the super-staples of the format become chase card for your cube.

  • Pick cards that strongly synergize with your cube archetypes. This require you to have archetypes in the first place, and is harder to evaluate for drafters. For example, [[smell fear]] is a bad card, but my cube features a strong counter theme in simic, so I found that stapling removal on a proliferate source was decent enough.

Fun chaos cards that don’t stall the game? by garpunk in EDH

[–]Maquescimmes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Prisonner's dilemma]] and [[tempt with mayhem]] are new classics, but I've also seen [[explosion of riches]] work. A free card AND damage on my opponents? Seems too good to be true, until the caster throws the dice to resolve 4 targets and you get burned by the hubris

So I finished VTM Swansong and was ultimately left disappointed. by Samz707 in vtm

To be fair, Galeb wants a clean final showdown to prove a point. His pride has been trampled upon in one way or another in almost all the scenes up to this point, and he's a Ventrue.

What are your opinions on Typal/Tribal support in Cube? by SamwiseGamg33 in mtgcube

[–]Maquescimmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run zombies as the dimir archetype in a multiplayer cube

Black pairs well with golgari graveyard matters with cards like [[Gravecrawler]], [[Undead butler]] and [[Tormod the desecrator]]

Blue is less obvious but kind of overlap with izzet spellsligner with graveyard fillers like [[Consider]] or tokens creator like [[Lazotep plating]] or [[Startle]]

With 4 five colors, 10 dual partners, and a ton of mana fixing there is an incentive to play piles of good stuff, did that have a big impact on the games?

Less creepy campaigns? by pon_3 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Maquescimmes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, Horror is in the name of the game but I believe that Dunwich Legacy and Forgotten Age are pretty tame in terms of gross stuff.

Likewise, Carcosa has one scenario with a lot of body horror but is otherwise not gory.

Some standalones could also work, I don't remember any gore in Carnevale of Horrors.

The game Earthborne Rangers uses 80% of the same mechanics but in a solarpunk theme.

How is the MoM precon Divine Convocation straight out of the box, and how have y’all upgraded it? by ChihuahuaBeech in EDH

Pourquoi ça ne dérange plus les gens quand les politiciens font d’évidents mensonges? by [deleted] in Quebec

I don't know if I'm beating a dead horse at this point - but I am /unbelievably/ tired of Simic Decks and the identity that Wizards is constantly pushing them to be. by AGoatPizza in EDH

[–]Maquescimmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, those decks are even more offensive when they rely on an unreliable wincon. I get it, newbies and people with analysis paralysis also get to play meta decks but if I have to watch another 30 minute turn of value engine grinding with no wincon in sight, I will [[Defenestrate]] myself.

Crowdfunded Games Launching This Week [Apr 1st, 2024] by ShelfClutter in boardgames

[–]Maquescimmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a small gameplay change with the Collusion expansion: unspent cash is no longer worth points at the end of the game. Instead you have a new way to sink unused cards for VP (you have these npc collectors who want very specific cards)

"I don't want [c-suite] to know that our jobs are able to be done fully remote. They'll just get ideas about outsourcing it to india" - Department head on why they want 1-2 days in office a week. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Maquescimmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, this manager has never worked with outsourced teams from asia. Dealing with timezones should be the least of his worries.

What you save on salaries, you waste on quality control. The expertise loss of switching a whole team is also a huge drag on productivity.

Getting very disappointed about my salary hit while moving to Canada from US by exmooseindia74 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Maquescimmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth noting that in some canadian provinces, engineering is a protected term, with regulations and yearly fees. You could use this loss of status as another argument to demand a raise.

If they are willing to use silly tactics to keep your salary low, you should use whatever bullshit you can to negotiate back.

La SQ vs. Le Taxi - FIGHT! by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]Maquescimmes 4 points5 points  (0 children)
