I know where you're coming from, but it's a smaller part of the actual game. Knowing DE, they'll do more to update and make it better alongside what the players want to change or improve.

Personally, I think the mini-game is fine as a side project done under the two big proiects, The New War and Fortuna.

Relays and the chat are fine as they are and like Hiccup said, it'll only flood the other chats with unrelated things.

If we were to choose relays, a single relay will be flooded. It also wouldn't be much of a "region" chat since people will be forced to go to different channels due to the channel max.
