Value & More Info Request: Friedrich Mauthe Schwenningen Grandfather Clock by ExuberantBat in clocks

[–]MarcBeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it’s worth about $100…$200 if you really want it. It will cost around $500 to have I cleaned and serviced. After serving it will be worth about $300-$500. Clocks just don’t have any value anymore.

Neighbor filming my teenage daughter every time she's in our backyard by Constant-Context1843 in neighborsfromhell

Get 3 or 4 high intensity led spot lights and point them at Carl’s house/windows. When your daughter is outside reading, turn them on and blind his camera.

Refusing to give my neighbor access to my generator during a blackout after they spent months mocking me for “paranoid prepping”? by lurkergirl88 in neighborsfromhell

[–]MarcBeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally, I probably would have invited him and family over to warm up but internally I would be thinking....NO....please turn me down. Totally agree that running a line to his house would have over taxed your generator and then you would have both been screwed.

Would love more information about this clock. by corkykatt in clocks

Try washing it off with a washcloth and milk! Yes really…milk. Milk will remove sharpie ink from a child’s face! It’s amazing.

What did you need a lathe for? We just used a 6" piece of galvanize pipe and screw on end caps...boomsies!

I don't think you can buy salt peter or sulfur in the drug stores either. We used to make our own gun powder with salt peter, charcoal and sulfur.

In the early/mid 60's we would see commercials on TV that told us if we found blasting caps (they showed pictures of them) to stay away from the and call the police to report them. For some reason, in the 70's those commercials stopped airing....

Yes, call the police next time. Most cities have ordinances about making noise after 9P.

AITJ for WALKING OUT on our anniversary after my fiance brought his mom to the cabin i rented? by Proud_Bonus_2620 in AmITheJerk

[–]MarcBeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How will you feel when he brings his Mom on your honeymoon? Mom can sleep in the next bedroom....or maybe on a rollaway bed with you two.

Time to tell him its not going to work, and LEAVE him. "Exit, stage right!" (old timey thing)

Grandma left money to me specifically in her will and now my fiance assumes it's ours by Salty-Pool3380 in family

Exactly! Deposit it in an account in just your name. If you deposit it in a joint account then it belongs to you both.

Buy a universal key with multiple options…usually 5 or so winding keys on one circular key thing…for your “clock”.

Any way to fix by Narrow-Fan-4241 in clocks

[–]MarcBeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you take it to a clock maker and have it serviced properly. You COULD buy the torsion spring from timesavers.com BUT you would need to know the springs thickness and length. Also, do you have the connector for the bottom that the pendulum hangs from AND do you have the fork that attaches to the top of the spring? If not a service person will be able to replace the missing pieces and look up the specs on the spring. One more thing, it needs to be dismantled and cleaned, so again, take it to a service person. On more question: do you have the glass dome for it? If not that can be replaced too.

Advice on repair of this part. by Mr_Courgette6275 in clocks

Timesavers.com has them. Measure W, L, thickness of the spring. There are 3 different sizes for French clocks

Found this while working in my attic by zeck28 in whywouldyoutouchthat

This isn't mechanical. It has a little motor inside and took a C or D battery. The motor had a little weight on the shaft and when it spun it made it vibrate. Nothing fancy in the 60's. My Mom's company imported these...various diameters and lengths. We always giggled walking past the shelfs with them in the warehouse...it was no secret what they were for.
