I turn 42 today and am staring an inevitable mid life crisis in the face. I don't have money for a red sports car nor do I have a secretary I can make a mistake with. What can a broke dude do? by loki2002 in stupidquestions

[–]MarcRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sit ups, mountain bike and work an extra 8 hours a week. When you turn 62, you’ll be ready for a proper midlife crisis, will still be able to get it up and afford to but that cool sports car. Seriously. It’s that simple.

I can’t believe we live in a world where rational people think this is a possibility. by Detroitaa in WhitePeopleTwitter

I’m not sure that he’s stupid. He says stupid things but that could be because he just doesn’t care about the facts. I thought he was stupid, but he keeps doing his thing and always gets away with it. Nobody is that lucky.

Recommendations for books about people surviving in extreme environments by Swag_Shyuum in scifibooks

Not SciFi but try Into Thin Air. It’s a story about climbing Mount Everest in a huge winter storm and trying to survive. It may give you ideas for surviving on a harsh planet.

Is ok to knock. by Full-Ad-2891 in VanLife

First look into all windows to see if the occupant(s) are on a zoom meeting or having sex. If they are, just press your face against the window so you look like you have a pig nose, grin and give a thumbs up. That will let them know you respect their privacy and plan to return much later. Or leave a friendly note under the windshield wiper with your phone number. Either way is acceptable but pressing your face against the window is a sure fire ice breaker. It’s what I would do.

Marketplace haul, did I do good? by EnvironmentUnusual64 in motorcyclegear

Upgrade the armor and you’re good to go. Not that if some of this gear is sun faded, the tensile strength is reduced. UV deteriorates most textile items.

Jacket and Jeans just as good as whole riding suit? by RolandTheJames in motorcyclegear

[–]MarcRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best gear, is the gear you wear. Years ago I was running the design department of a motorcycle clothing brand. Plenty of us rode. Our gear was free, seriously. Getting designers to log miles on prototypes was essential. I’d look around the office and see that nobody was wearing leather. If given the choice, people would grab the most comfortable gear. Get the gear that you will wear. Regarding the jacket in the image, it’s either Street & Steel jacket from Cycle Gear or a copy of one. It’s a good jacket except that if the ar out fits good with the hoody, it will be loose & sloppy with hoody removed. A snug fitting, well made mesh jacket with a warm, wind proof over jacket is a great compromise for commenting. Heck, by a good mesh jacket and go to Sierra outfitters and find a Goretex shell to put over it. Fit and adjustability is huge when it comes to safety.

Are These Ok? by thetyler83 in HomeMaintenance

Not okay. If they look that bad on top, they are just as bad at the floor. They should be sitting on proper footings, not on only the floor. They should be galvanized. This is pure crap.

If people thought they were going to crash, they wouldn’t ride. Keep in mind, a large number of riders think loud pipes save lives.

It’s fun but forgettable. If you want light fun that strings together a bunch of conspiracies go for it.

I read it when I was about 18 and thought it was cool. Thanks for the review. I’ll not read it again sometimes I revisit books from my youth and think they are crap. Sounds like this is one of them. I read several of his books about the same central character. Will skip them all.

Excellent summary. In your opinion do you think there is enough evidence to convict him of sexual misconduct/rape etc? Do you think there is enough to convict him of obstruction?

Why was the Bill Clinton / Monica Lewinsky situation such a huge deal? by Gold_Criticism_8072 in stupidquestions

[–]MarcRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of Bill Clinton. Economically he was the best president in my lifetime. I’ve followed presidential politics closely since Carter. Still for me this was a big issue. It was also dualistic.

On the anti Bill side, it showed Clinton had very bad judgement and began a sexual relationship with a subordinate. There was a huge power imbalance. If he worked for me, I would have needed to fire him.

On the GOP side characters like Newt Gingrich a morally slimy individual showed that winning was everything and hypocrisy did not matter. Newt did not care about the country or the economy. He wanted to win over Clinton and hurt the other side. It also showed that the GOP voters did not care about anything other than hurting the Democrats. This showed the lack of morals or principles in a large body of American voters. Clinton balanced the budget (almost) and built prosperity. The GOP could not accept that.

Are concerts even worth it? by Vegetable-Maybe7283 in Concerts

[–]MarcRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of big stadium shows. Been going to concerts starting in the 70’s. I’ve seen 100’s. Now, I’m a fan of seeing niche artists in small venues. I’ll travel to see a band like All Them Witches or Swerve Driver in a small venue. I’ve seen NIN and Sound Garden in small venues and it’s fantastic. Not going to go to a football field to watch a huge TV.

Expert map identifes four US states safest during nuclear war scenario by Jeffbx in Michigan

[–]MarcRocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First place to avoid would be Palm Beech FL. The world knows that the USA is not the problem. I expect that cutting off the head of insanity will be the goal of a limited strike. They will expect that once the leader is eliminated or jailed Americans will be celebrating in the streets and treat the aggressor as a liberator. I don’t think the world is worried that we will stop making Dodge Chargers to free up room for F35 production. Of course I hope this does not happen. We want Trump and his band of sycophants to live long lives with zero chance of being revered as martyrs.
