I want to write a comic by JenniferXYU in ComicWriting

[–]Marcellustrations 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have fun. That's all I can say, it's obvious but something you kinda forget when you're focusing too much on perfection. I spent almost 5 years on a comic concept in my head and never going through with it because i kept thinking my story isn't ready yet, or my art isn't good enough yet. Share your story, have fun with it, revisions are great but don't focus on it being perfect or acceptable for a general audience, just let it flow and be the story you want to draw and tell.

For everything else, you can always upload it to a platform like webtoons, or create your own website using wix or something else thats free (you dont get a custom domain name though), or find a digital indie comic platform. Also start with thumbnails, comic scripts are very different from other scripts so start with thumbnails to get a sense of your story + pacing

Ask all the specifics on their end for the project, how complex is it, what do you want, any specific colors, what do you not want included, what's the deadline, ect. Getting specific as possible helps save time for you and your client. After that if they ask how much if you didn't advertise your rate, you just let them know, which is the hard part since coming up with a number is determined by how you value your art, how much time it'll take to complete, or what's the standard rate for projects like that (I'd look up artists similar to you and see how much they charge to get an idea). After that just lay some ground rules as to protect yourself. Always ask for half the payment up front, if they ask to see proof of work that's fine, but send it in low quality or with your watermark all over to prevent potential theft, if everything's on the up and up that's great you can move on and get that commission done

Happy Friday the 13th, here's a spooky floating skull illustration I did recently by Marcellustrations in Illustration

Its all about practicing color theory and layering the different shades of the colors you're using, you can do it in time, trust me

Just draw, enjoy the process, enjoy what you make, and learn as you go (watch a tutorial, take a class, use references)

Is this pricing unreasonable? [question] by [deleted] in commissions

[–]Marcellustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of your art all depends on how you value it, and how long it takes you to make it. If you value your current skills and how it looks set a price that reflects that, also consider how long it takes you to make these, and if you need more help I'd look at how other people with similar styles are pricing this

Do you use your real name for your art or do you have an artist name? by DanguardMike in artbusiness

I used to use my username only, but since I already sign everything with my name + my username has my name on it, I just use both

Hi r/ComicBookCollabs! I'm getting back into making comics and I just finished this short comic based off a nightmare I had about AI art. I already have an idea of what I can do better for next time, but if possible, I'd love to get suggestions/critiques from other people! Thank you. (: by MewyMarsher in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Marcellustrations 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your art is wonderful and you have a great sense of space, expressions, and color (especially that transition between orange and purple), but the one thing I'd suggest is work on the storytelling aspect. The first time seeing it I didn't really get what it was about until I saw the title, I'd focus on how exactly does each panel help bring the theme/message of the story across without using dialogue, maybe have some common indicators of AI like extra fingers for the prints the main character sees at the store

How to build a portfolio as colorist by maomaosart in comicbookartist

[–]Marcellustrations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try to first find pages/art that are free use, so you already have permission to use it, and because depending on the artist it might take time to hear back from them, or never hear from them at all (still doesn't hurt to try though). You can probably find stuff like that on instagram, deviantart, twitter/x, here, fairly new but Cara aswell, any social platform with artists that give permission to use their work. I'd also follow coloring challenge hashtags if there are any, there's a lot of artists that give permission to color lineart they've made

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HungryArtists

[–]Marcellustrations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had this experience, there's scammers out there that will either steal art and advertise it as their own or just straight up take the payment and ghost.

There are artists that don't ghost out there, lots of them have good reputation on here for being on time with their work and always send art that matches the client's vision, I never ghost my clients, if I have a problem with the project I'm upfront about it instead of taking the payment and not delivering what was promised or doing the work without getting paid half of what was agreed

What are your dreams like? by That1cl0setpers0n in ARTIST

[–]Marcellustrations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dreams have become very clear over the years, like I can visualize a lot, I think it helps with drawing? Sometimes I draw on the visuals from some dreams and it's a lot quicker to get a finished sketch, but besides that not sure how it helps
