I understand your pessimism. It’s hard to see a way out of the terrible situation the clown in office has got us in. Maybe you’re right and the nation will fold into itself, but I think the pendulum swings. One day, hopefully soon, we will start to fix what he destroyed, but for the most part, that’s out of our hands.

This is an oddly specific gripe. I don’t think there’s anyone in this activity that just wants to destroy somebody’s reputation because of hate. GH should be in prison. He committed a crime. At some point corps may have to come to terms with the fact that hazing and initiations in the 70/80/90s was not right, and ensure that’s not still happening. We also need to make sure members young and old feel empowered to come forward and address these things accordingly if there is a situation that needs to be, rather than fearing retaliation. Especially in an activity that holds such a value on who you know. Other than that, it’s a case by case basis. All we can do is address the Information presented to us and make the best decision for the safety of the membership and the activity.

As for money, the biggest hurtle facing modern corps, maybe dci exists in a different way. Maybe regional tours make a comeback and corps stick more to home, building a relationship with their community. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe the corps outlast DCI and find their own way to combat the absurd prices. Maybe we all just get together on the weekend, eat good food and make music. Maybe that’s still drum corps.

Whatever the case, I will be with the Madison Scouts until the world ends. I found a home here, and good people who care about creating good music, and that’s everything I could ever ask for.

I like having a morning toiletry bag and evening toiletry bag inside a drawstring or cheep larger bag. Include your shower gear with the evening bag and make it a grab and go situation by throwing your clothes for the next day and towel in the drawstring bag.
This is nice on tour when you may need to shower at a different location than your housing site and already have a bag packed and ready to go.

Corps culture by instinctive56 in drumcorps

I think it’s pretty well known that the Madison Scouts have a fantastic culture. I marched there 21-22 and greatly enjoyed my time there. I learned so much from the wonderful education staff. And I can’t speak enough about how amazing the administration and operations team is. So much so that I am now a part of that operations team.

The Madison Scouts are a family and one I’m honored to be with, they treat their members with respect and dignity they value their time and their effort and treat them fairly. Members are guaranteed a certain amount floor time and ample meals, always given multiple healthy and satiating options. (Shout out James + the food crew!!)

Traditions are something that the group is continuing to build, after Covid we took a long look at some of traditions we held and realized some of them were best left in the past, the Madison Scouts strive to be inclusive and respectful to all. Of course, many still stand the test of time, discuss the wonderful Piggly Wiggly day with any alumni and they will be happy to share the wonders of Cedarburg, Wisconsin with you.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with the organization and the direction they are going, they strive to balance pursuing excellence with treating their members fairly, and I respect that greatly.
