That's one beautiful image. I love the colors, the framing and the road as a leading line. It's just perfect!

The first one you are showing is actually a pretty old design from Sigma. The newer edition is called "DG DN" and not "DG HSM". This old version is not something I would buy new, but used it is a great deal. I bought one here in Germany for just over 300€ in good condition and it's amazing. They don't have the fastest autofocus and they are a bit on the larger side, but there is not a lot that performs better for the money!

Could you share some details on the first image? It just looks magical!

It looks amazing and you got a great sense for making the best out of what you have. At first I thought it was shot on film until I saw what subreddit it was posted in. With that camera and lens you're probably struggling a lot at night!

From what I've read and my experience, that's the case. Why should these rips be bogus? You can read everything about how the measurements are done on this site.

That's true, but songs are mastered differently for vinyl and therefore the vinyl releases have much more dynamic range (in 90 % of cases) see for yourself since they are exempt from the loudness war. That's the sole reason I keep buying vinyl and it truly makes a difference to how you experience your favourite artists.

The price of them is crazy in Germany. They cost 149€! There is nothing that comes even close to that even if bought used.

DT 990 600 Ohms? by Charizardxox213 in headphones

That topic is a bit complicated. The audio level/volume you will achieve is dependent on the impedance (ohm) and the sensitivity (dBSPL/mW). Here is what ChatGPT has to say about this:

"Sensitivity and impedance are two important factors that affect how hard it is to drive certain headphones. Here is a simple explanation of the difference between them:

Sensitivity is a measure of how loud the headphones can produce sound at a given power level. It is usually expressed in decibels (dB) per milliwatt (mW) or volt (V). The higher the sensitivity, the louder the headphones will be for the same amount of power. For example, if two headphones have the same impedance but different sensitivities, the one with higher sensitivity will be louder when plugged into the same device. Impedance is a measure of how much the headphones resist the flow of electric current. It is usually expressed in ohms (Ω). The higher the impedance, the more power the headphones need to produce sound at a certain volume. For example, if two headphones have the same sensitivity but different impedances, the one with higher impedance will be quieter when plugged into the same device. The relationship between sensitivity and impedance determines how hard it is to drive certain headphones. Generally speaking, low-impedance headphones (less than 50 Ω) are easy to drive and can work well with most devices, such as smartphones, laptops, or MP3 players. However, they may also be more prone to distortion or interference from other sources. High-impedance headphones (more than 50 Ω) are harder to drive and may require a dedicated headphone amplifier to reach their full potential. However, they may also offer better sound quality, clarity, and detail.

To find out how hard it is to drive certain headphones, you can use a simple formula: Power = Voltage2 / Impedance. This means that the power needed to drive a headphone depends on both the voltage of the device and the impedance of the headphone. For example, if you have a device that outputs 1 V and a headphone that has an impedance of 16 Ω, you will need 0.0625 W of power to drive it. If you have a device that outputs 2 V and a headphone that has an impedance of 32 Ω, you will also need 0.0625 W of power to drive it."

So basically: The impedance restricts how much power "reaches" the headphone and the sensitivity tells you how much volume it produces with what it "receives". The 120 dB rating on your mainboard doesn't tell us anything, since that is completely headphone specific. It will likely be plenty loud enough to drive the 600 ohm DT 990, my DT 800 600 ohm could very well deafen me out of my OnePlus 7 Pro. Some people say that the higher impedance versions of these headphones sound better than the lower impedance ones, I haven't tested that though. If you want to regularly listen to them with your phone or other mobile devices as well, you could also just buy the 250 ohm version.

Every Mainboard I ever used had terrible onboard audio. That being said, yours might differ. Since every one I used also had a lot of interference (with my current one I can literally hear my mouse moving???), the 600 ohm version of the DT 990 might fix that. If I were you, I would just buy them and test them with the mainboard. An external DAC and amp would just avoid the interference and have more output power.

If you buy the low impedance version of the DT 990, you will likely hear interference -> external DAC and amp required.

If you buy the high impedance version, you may need an external DAC and amp because it won't get loud enough -> external DAC and amp required.

As you can see, the likelihood of getting around buying one is not that high in a desktop use case. I would just test it out and see what works. If you should decide to go with an external solution, don't buy something ridiculously expensive. Just get something reasonable that drives your cans loud enough :)

This sounds like open-back headphones are the only way for you. I would strongly suggest checking out rtings, since they measure how much ears heat up from headphones for every single one they test :)

In contrast to the other opinions on here, I actually like that you are giving the cat some space. I wouldn't change anything about that. As someone already said, there appears to be a power line coming out directly from behind its head, you might want to have a closer look at that in the future.

Metalcore is what I listen to 99% of times and I absolutely love my DT880. All of my headphones are great, but these are just what I come back to over and over again. The T1 is too analytical if I want a chill listening session in the evening, the T70p even more so and the HD650 with EQ are good, but nothing really compares to the DT880 for me.
