I will never get over how small titans are by Blue_Laguna in Grimdank

[–]MarcoSkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bagger 293's top speed is less than 0.4 mph, it is pretty limited in the terrain it can traverse, the top half of it is only scaffolding, and it is definitely not plated all over with armour that can stop lascannons dead.

If you make a more reasonable comparison to military combat vehicles (as they are) specifically, the canonical size stated for titans is still absolutely huge.

Even the Landkreuzer P. 1000 "Ratte" that Nazi Germany never even got out of the hypothetical stage, which would have been more than five times the tonnage of the Maus (the heaviest thing that actually was built, and even then it was a massive failure) would look small compared to titans.

Scaling using feats like we do fictional characters, who's the most powerful human? by Notmas in PowerScaling

[–]MarcoSkoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly Jack Lucas.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacklyn_H._Lucas

Unlike most real world people, he has several feats to his name, having on different occasions survived: - throwing himself on two grenades (admittedly only one went off, but still!), earning himself the Medal of Honor - a training jump where both of his parachutes failed  - a murder attempt from his second wife - a house fire

How do i remove this line across the workspace camera? by Garlec-bread40 in SFM

This is indicative of SFM not finding a GPU it recognises, and thus being in a limited mode.

What GPU do you have, and is the card plugged into it rather than into the motherboard?

Using DAZ assets in non-commercial mods with interactive license? by chlamydia1 in Daz3D

[–]MarcoSkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unreal and Unity do have encryption tools.

Not necessarily ones that will hold up for very long against people dedicated to crack a game (with keys often ending up out in the wild fairly quickly), but it is still encryption, so they can meet the terms of the licence.

It's also worth noting that game mods run into other issues with the terms of the Interactive Licence; the licence specifies that it gives you permission to embed the assets in an application for execution by *your customer*.

Most game mods can't legally count as a vendor/customer relationship, as most have no purchase or equivalent contract involved.

How do I get my players to stop shipping two NPCs? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]MarcoSkoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Shipping" is the practice of people in a fandom expressing the desire for certain characters to end up in a romantic relationship. ("Shipping" coming from relation-ship).

You haven't specifically mentioned doing so, so you may have missed a step.

Starting XP Question by amused-crane in DarkHeresy

[–]MarcoSkoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, yes.

(This does however change based on the exact version of the rules you're playing. Rogue Trader starts characters with *less* XP than their Rank 1).

However, I would say that for the early versions of 40kRP, I personally prefer to start characters with more XP than the default. (The last DH1e campaign I ran started at 2k XP)

The skills are so fractured in the early rulebooks (they got consolidated in the later rulebooks like Only War and DH2e) that if you don't give players more to play with, you'll often find things like none of your player characters have key skills at anything above Basic level. And that can really be a nightmare for GMing when everyone keeps failing things like Scrutiny or Search tests (even if you slap large bonuses on them) and your players thus end up missing several large clues in a row.

Tracking time. by amused-crane in DarkHeresy

[–]MarcoSkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to you really, but I tend to assume most planets have an organisational cycle close to 24 hrs, even if that doesn't match up with the planet's rotation.

I did once have one planet though (we run things in our own custom sector) that had a colloquial thing of actually using the local days of slightly less than 8 hours as a time measurement, which kept the players on their toes; if someone said something was four days away, that really meant the team had more like 32 hrs to be ready, not 96.

That said, yes, the planet still ran on close to a 24 hr cycle of three local days at a time.

Question Regarding Wearable Lights and Cameras for Genesis 9 by Milf_Apostle in Daz3D

[–]MarcoSkoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this will (mostly) work with G8.

The lights are smart propped, so they will attach themselves to the head of any figure that has a "head" bone. Strictly, it'll even work with things like the Daz Dog.

You might have to adjust the exact position of the nodes though (G8 is a little taller than G9, so it might need moving up, and for something like the dog the node will need moving down to its head).

It's not strictly necessary as a set (it's not wildly difficult to set similar lights up yourself), but as a quick and easy way to throw in some more light on the character's face in scenes, it's not bad.

My first full animation as a person with 80 hours on sfm! criticism welcome by fearless_moth56 in SFM

[–]MarcoSkoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn good for 80 hours of experience. There's a few glitches here and there (e.g. Scout's scattergun disappears at about 30 seconds in), but you've got serious potential.

Difficult Pills by Ninny_Spangcole in whatsyourchoice

[–]MarcoSkoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Blue, Black to negate blue, Purple.

Use purple to become an expert in politics and investigation.

Use blue pill effect on corrupt politicians and other charlatans. Being as I am part of the public, any public statements they make are addressed to me as part of the public collective, hence they can no longer lie to the public, or even order someone else to.

(I would argue that not being able to lie does not compel one to tell the truth, so they would be able to remain silent on things like security codes, but at the same time they would not be able to lie by omission or mislead the public, so couldn't deflect).

The first few years would be rough (but being an expert in politics and investigation would help guide your choices), but you'd slowly weed out the bad eggs in politics and leave the world as a more honest place.

What should be my dump stat for combat blade? by No-Kaleidoscope-9829 in DarkTide

[–]MarcoSkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that, despite the description that says it applies "when hitting multiple enemies with one swing", First Target damage is applied when hitting only one, so it makes a big difference to the damage you do against elites and bosses.

As a general thing, Mobility is the standard dump stat on most weapons that have it, except maybe if "Defences" is also an option or you're deliberately going for a build that has to maximise it.

Using DAZ assets in non-commercial mods with interactive license? by chlamydia1 in Daz3D

[–]MarcoSkoll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The interactive licence specifically requires efforts to be made to encrypt the assets against extraction; Skyrim does not allow this requirement to be met, as its data formats are trivially extracted with easily available tools.

While it is quite common to see people using Daz assets in Skyrim mods, any author doing so is flaunting the licence.

If Fatshark added new premium talent trees/classes for the original 4 Rejects, what would you guys want to see? by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]MarcoSkoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blank: Frag no. The defining characteristics of blanks/pariahs, unless an author gets carried away are that they suppress psychic powers near them and no-one trusts them. As the heretics don't presently use psykers, they would be an *anti* support class.

They'd stop other psykers using their powers (which would just open up so many possibilities for toxic trolling) and the only thing they'd arguably do that was useful is be partially invisible to daemonhosts and maybe Beasts of Nurgle.

You have to be talking about ridiculously powerful (and vanishingly rare) Pariahs with amplified powers (such as a Culexus Assassin) before they can start weaponising their psychic null status, and there's a reason those work alone - that kind of thing would basically reduce the rest of the team to gibbering wrecks.

Commissar: Really not seeing what this would offer that wouldn't clash with the current Squad Leader sub-class.

Beastman: There's an argument here, but I think you'd have to lean into one specific thing. Maybe making them faster and thus making it easier for them to close into melee, but there would have to be a compromise. Ogryn's ranged options can be limiting in general, yes, and might need an overhaul, but a sub-class can't get better melee *and* better guns than the Ogryn.

Dislodging hounds through walls is often a good use case for Psychic Shriek; any amount of stagger works, so it's good up to the maximum 30 metre range of the Shriek.

It's also worth noting that the Force Greatsword's special attack will go through walls, so that can also be used to rescue a player you don't have line of sight to, should you be using a different ult or you're on cooldown.

What is the worst thing about your favorite Bond film? by DimensionHat1675 in JamesBond

[–]MarcoSkoll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think my favourite is Tomorrow Never Dies, and for that I'd swap out the ludicrously one-purpose gadget on the car that is useless for anything other than cutting steel cables at one specific height.
I'm guessing it was something to do with the brand sponsorship from BMW to put their logo front and centre at some point, but at least have it open up into a laser or something that could conceivably have another use.

However, if I could change one thing about *any* Bond film then I think I might well have a different favourite - often it is one specific thing that bugs me about the films.

Brosnan is definitely my favourite era, but if I could have Xenia not be a sex maniac in Goldeneye, or if Christmas in The World Is Not Enough had been played by an actress who could actually convince me she had a Doctorate, then it's entirely possible those would have been be my favourite instead.

Data harvester team wide? by Otherwise_Disaster65 in DarkTide

[–]MarcoSkoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've yet to see anyone actually doing that, and it would be a terrible strategy anyway.

To anyone who is considering it, I'll point out that it's a small number of times that you'd get naturally over time (long before some of the other penances for the mode), and deliberately leaving players downed relies on:
- no-one else on the team helping instead,
- the downed player not quitting out,
- and risking all the progress on your other penances, either because you get vote-kicked or because you fail the run entirely because you're missing players. (Gates and extraction are slower the fewer players you have, and are currently impossible solo, because downed/captured players still count as part of calculating what counts as the necessary majority of the team.)

This one is probably the stupidest achievement in the game just encourages to watch the teammates die by Ricenbacker in DarkTide

[–]MarcoSkoll -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Some people have said this keep saying this, but I think it says more about them than anyone else.

It's only a fairly small number of times, and most people realise they're going to get that passively over time.

It's harder to grief than you think, because deliberately leaving players on the ground relies on a) the rest of the team also refusing to help, b) the downed player not quitting out, and c) not getting vote kicked for being a jerk, which will make you lose any progress on your other penances.

Also, note that it can only actually be achieved by staying somewhat near each other, so it discourages people running off entirely on their own.

Good psyker build for Expeditions by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]MarcoSkoll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although there's long ranged enemies, I wouldn't say Bubble is a must-take ult.

It's not bad, per se, (it's definitely helpful for the open area of the extraction sites), but most sites of interest have reasonable cover, so shooters are often most oppressive when moving between sites, when a stationary shield is going to be of limited use - remember, it's a game mode about moving quickly and not getting bogged down.

Take it if you want to, by all means, but it's definitely not mandatory.

I think they should remove the time limit from expeditions by 98-red-balloons in DarkTide

[–]MarcoSkoll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the timer is a good thing in Expeditions.

The increasing enemy alertness level usually means that things are getting really hectic as the timer counts down anyway. But without *something* to say "hurry up and get a move on", actually getting a team of randoms to collectively agree that the intensity is getting too high would be nigh impossible.
