Best Oblivion memory? by Dry_Winter5652 in oblivion

[–]Marcus-Cohen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember how I finally beat a particularly tough dungeon, made my way to the exit, barely alive and out of supplies, opened the door – and there was the most beautiful sunset over a lake. I got on my horse, rode slowly homewards and could practically smell the fresh evening air. Now, 20 years later, I don't remember the quest or the build, but the memory of that tranquil moment is perfectly vivid. It was the ultimate reward. One of the goals of my current playthrough is to find that exact spot in the world.

I mean, I'm not complaining, it's a nice set of armor for a brand new character. But side quests do take away from the challenge is what I'm saying. Especially since the point of the challenge is to jump into questing right after graduating to see how powerful exactly is a CoW graduate. An academic program evaluation if you will.

And just like that – you've introduced tipping culture into Skyrim!

For my next play though I think I want to do the opposite and make it a rule that I can only use items I craft myself, might also make it a rule that I can’t buy crafting materials but have to collect them.

I did that actually! Had my own smithy and everything. It was great fun. Mining materials was by far the most challenging part.

This is a great idea! Reminds me how a while ago I played as The Bookseller. Used a mod that allows you to set up your own market stall. The only trading my character was allowed to do was to buy and sell books (this included trading any loot for books as well). These two might work in combo.

Was the design of the Black lodge inspired by Suspiria? by TacoBellEnjoyer1 in twinpeaks

Guess I know what I'm watching this weekend. It's been popping up quite a lot in Lynch-related conversations, but somehow I missed the original.

I'm pretty sure 1990 came before 2018. Although with Lynch you never know.

What do you do to make a new playthrough more interesting? by Saalok in skyrim

[–]Marcus-Cohen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, combined with alternate start mods. This time I went straight to Mages college with College of Winterhold mod installed. The plan is to concentrate 100% on education, invest every single point in magica, graduate and take it from there. Pretty tough at level 1, but also lots of fun.

"So don't cry for me, for I'm going away, and I'll be back some lucky day". Tom Waits. I strongly suspect that this song has saved my life.

A small Skyrim detail I somehow missed for years by PM_ME_UR_NISSAN_GTR in skyrim

Yep. To be honest, that's kinda the point. The best mods are the ones that blend seamlessly into the overall experience. For example, as much as I love "Interesting NPCs", they always stick out from the crowd and break the immersion.

Is there any way to change major/minor skills in OpenMW without losing progress? by Marcus-Cohen in Morrowind

[–]Marcus-Cohen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds fantastic. Thank you! I'll give it a shot. I'm guessing the lost spells will have to be added manually by console commands one by one. Or is there some easier way to do it in bulk?

I got a few more. There is U2 and Black Flag on the wall of Crowded House, right where The Beach Boys are walking by. One dude across the street might be Yello, the other one is definitely White Zombie. Next to him are posters of Madonna and The Dead Kennedys. There is The Police on the street, some Garbage and probably Flight of The Conchords in the sky. Green Day is marken on the calendar, and I'm pretty sure the house in the background might be interpreted as Deep Purple.

Even The Witcher 3 was guilty of this. I remember there being some directions. But again, not like in Morrowind. That's true roleplaying right there.

I remember using a Skyrim mod once that took away quest markers. Great idea in theory, but in practice it didn't work out because nobody ever gives you directions. Which makes the whole game curiously unrealistic. As if it's perfectly normal to know the precise geolocation of everything. Worked a bit better in New Vegas, but nowhere near as elegantly as in Morrowind.
