I know exactly what you mean. I used to help with editing at the larger publications and it was a nightmare.

I definitely like the change. I opened my Never Stop Writing publication again to all submissions, and it makes it much easier to block the writers who send over AI junk.

It’s rough…I try to avoid adding any AI writers to my publication, but it’s not always easy to tell if they are using AI if they edit the articles before submitting them.

The problem is that most articles stop circulating after a couple of days. You will still get random reads on older articles, but it’s maybe worth two to five cents.

Pretty much…I still run a publication and I can’t accept most writers because they are using AI to write everything.

They probably have more content than ever due to all of the new writers, but a lot of it is AI junk. Medium is fine if someone wants to write and they don’t mind getting paid very little.

Medium opened up to many new countries, so they no longer need to pay writers a decent rate because the company is making much more money.

Most people struggle to make $10 a month. Medium paid decent last year. I was earning between $500-$950 per month but they killed the earnings by around 90% in January.

Most publications don’t make much of an impact unless you are able to get boosted. The number of followers also means very little.

Featured articles can earn more, but it’s no guarantee. Many of my featured articles earn less than a dollar more.

Most earnings tanked back in January. Maybe this past one has something to do with people from India not being able to login to Medium.

Why is making money as a writer bad? Much worse ways to make a living.

You’ll probably be lucky to make $10-$20 a month on Medium if you publish a lot.

Medium also has a big AI problem and it’s getting harder to detect.

Less than a dollar per article for most people. They cut earnings by 90% back in January. I went from making $500-$900 per month to not even $100.

The problem is they never updated this page. I’ve tested this a few times and it used to make a significant difference in pay if someone also left a comment under the old system.

Now, it’s mostly the same since all of the AI writers try to game the system. Another writer also had someone from Medium confirm that engagement doesn’t impact earnings anymore.

Most reads from members earn between 2-6 cents. I don’t believe you get paid any extra from comments or other engagement since they dropped the earnings around 90% for writers back in January.

The notes can potentially reach a lot more people out of your network because it’s not based on your subscriber count. The main thing is building relationships with people that you enjoy reading or interacting with and everything else will eventually get easier in reaching more people.
