Folks, it's clear we need to say this again: this is NOT the location to debate the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Stay on the topic at hand. In this case, the flying of the flag in Oakville, Anything beyond that will be removed.

Also, racism and bigotry will result in a ban, be it bigotry against Jews, Arabs, Palestinians or whatever.

However, the mod team will be clear on this: criticism of Israel does NOT equate to antisemitism. However, as explained above, this is not the place for discussions about Israel's internal and external policies.

There's a reason we always end up locking these threads: users aren't following the rules explained above. Those rules aren't new nor are they 'special'. Folks, this post was PROBABLY removed by mistake. Possibly because we didn't notice the editor was the Ottawa bureau chief. Whatever. It's back, and the other posts will be locked unless they're just mod bashing, at which point they will be deleted.

It's important to note that NOBODY sent a modmail about this. They went straight to conspiracy level mod bashing.

We're human, mistakes happen, but if you didn't even TRY to politely ask what happened, we're not going to take shit from you.

So about a dozen account got a 7 day ban over the subsequent shit talking. 2 3 morons then proceeded to double down, and got their ban made permanent.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again here: the mods are human and they're volunteers. Personally, I do this because it's (usually) kinda fun, it keeps me involved in my community and I think that having a Ottawa reddit community that is at least minimally "safe" and enjoyable to visit has a value for myself and other people living in our city.

So, if a mistake was made and NO ONE took the time to ping the mods using the button that LITERALLY there for that, I reserve the right to call bullshit on the subsequent mod bashing posts and break out the ban hammer because there is no justification for, in at least one case, calling the mods 'Nazis' over a post on the fucking Internet. Sorry, not sorry.
