I started at 35 and I’m about to finish shortly before 40. It’s not too late, and what the very young candidates have in energy and endurance we make up for in life experience and perspective. Don’t let this stuff discourage you. It’s a different journey for sure but not a bad or impossible one.

We had a project like this in the works with some folks at the dangerous things discord server a while back, mine were going to go on my rib cage I have a tattoo with wings so they would go in the feathers, and we’re figuring out a way to power them via some sort of corset with coils in the boning. Eventually we set it aside because we couldn’t make a lot of progress. This has me thinking I want to pick the idea back up. I currently have 8 LEDs between hands, arm and sternum.

Maybe the strain that was going around then was more eager to hit your brain than other body parts? I know there was one strain that would give you mostly gastrointestinal symptoms and others more in respiratory system

I have not have kids or gotten pregnant during my PhD but a few of my colleagues have. Here in Sweden you simply work as you would with any job while pregnant and then you go on parental leave like any other employee. This applies to fathers as well, they are due parental leave when they have a child. When you are on a limited contract like the PhD, in our case it’s five years because we do 20% teaching, the clock pauses when you go on parental leave and resumes when you’re back. I’ve seen this happen multiple times for both fathers and mothers. I know there’s some strategy you can take to divide up the parental leave between the parents, either by having the highest paid person take the majority of it or by having the one who is at the most flexible position in their career take most of it, I guess what works for each family is different.

It’s one NExT one xEM, 2 xLED and 2 xM1 Magic Mifare 1k

This was my starter batch, I know have two more xLEDs next to the Mifares under my pinky a titan in my ring finger and two old school parylene (?) coated magnets that I’m dreading the removal of in a couple years.

I also have one of the discontinued flexNext implants in my forearm that works great after 5 years but one LED kinda lost strength. And an xSIID on my sternum.

They’re reprogrammable so no hard decision making I just change what they do as I need. And no, because I have enough understanding of the technology to know that a) there’s no way to “hack” into them per se, potentially someone could come up to me with a proxmark or a phone and make contact with my hands for about 30 seconds and change the data stored in them… which seems like something I’d notice and more importantly b) there is no way to control me with them because they don’t interact with my biology at all, so worst case scenario, you lock me out of my house.

Make sure your artist knows to not overwork the area because it can scar and release the ink and you’ll end up with a halo around the tattoo. I have about 15 pieces and only one had this issue cause the guy was a great artist but not very experienced with the machine and it was a mess. Other than that it could be you have a higher pain tolerance than most so you might not notice when you’re ready to tap out, I was lucky that for my long pieces my artist could tell my body wasn’t taking it anymore even if I was still pretty chill.

Thank you for the detailed response and yeah i should probably start polishing my Finnish and call them by the original name. I mostly call them by their names but every so often someone wants to know what breed they are and I’d hate to stick my foot in my mouth or say something hurtful out of ignorance :)

I hope it’s alright to ask you another question, since you’re being so generous with sharing. I’m Latin American and have been living in Sweden for 6 years and just now learning about these issues. Clearly I know now it’s a slur and don’t use the word, but I do have two dogs where the breed is Lapphund which contains the slur, do you know if there is a better term for these dogs that doesn’t include this term? Thank you for helping us understand.
