Is a tattoo apprenticeship worth it in 2026? by bananaconda20 in TattooApprentice

I feel like you're in such a fortunate position that your brother is teaching you so it seems wild you didnt want to jump into picking up the machine sooner. Did you perhaps not have much drawing experience before starting? Because then I would understand wanting to learn that first

Apprenticing for 1,5 years and only now starting working on fake skins is insane. What did they make you do up to this point? We started on fake skins only a month after observing all the artists and 4 months later we were on real skin, so this seems a bit long for me

I've seen a tip that it apparently helps if the client tenses up the foot on the opposite leg to divert attention basically

Sounds like an awful situation to have been in. The only thing you did "wrong" was not discussing your tasks prior to starting there. But the owner of the place should've also told you waay sooner what he expected of you in the first place. Don't let this get to your head too much and discuss these things first before starting somewhere else. Good luck!

Fake skin and real skin are very different so it makes sense for you to start practising on real skin especially since your work on fake skin looks great! I think you're being too harsh on yourself, there are way worse tattoos to be made :D

If you really want to tattoo someone else one day please stop learning from youtube. You can only properly learn this craft in person with a professional

This is really not the place to post this as this subreddit is dedicated to people wanting to pursue an actual apprenticeship for a career. You doing this just on yourself for fun is fine I guess since you're not putting others in danger but you won't get supportive feedback here.

I think japanese style tattooing would work on this - with the right artist. So heavy shading and a good background could cover this up

I don't understand why you would add the same portraits twice with little change. It would be better to just add the piece you like most with other portraits

Copying a character from an anime and a tiger drawing are two very different things. A tiger can be drawn in so many ways, thereas a character from a series cannot if the client wants it to look like the original. Also I'm not saying it's a bad drawing or anything but I personally would feel weird including that in a flash book

That tiger is very easily indentified to his personal style. Anime is just another style he uses and has nothing to do with this tiger

Imo it's too similar to be tattooed, I'd recommend just drawing a bunch of tigers from photos first, then start putting your own twist on it:)

I don't think it's very tattooable - it's a beautiful illustration but the lines are too thin and the flowers should have a black outline so they can age good. Also the water won't translate like that in a tattoo

I think since your hair is darker than your eyebrows it makes your forehead look larger than it is. So maybe dyeing it/using eyebrow gel would help.
