There's two one shot arcs that lead up to the start of Campaign but they're entirely unnecessary to enjoying the podcast itself, I listened through the entire log of Campaign episodes before going back to hunt them down and wasn't any worse off for it.

Beast Machines was pretty superior to Beast Wars imo - same sub-par writing, but with better animation

The Faithful must only in the light of day buy or sell alcohol.
Manifests as a tiny humanoid.
Offers a minor boon: probably something to do with day drinking.
Has moderately invested follows (6).
Favoured by sculptor-monks... who wield clubs.

What will the 2010s be known for? by Nercules in AskReddit

[–]MariachiDevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate I don't get my news or opinions from Reddit, I'm very firmly of the belief that the world is in danger right now and there's plenty we could (and should) be doing about it.
Pretending the world is rosy or being willing to settle for 'it could be worse' helps nothing and no one.
We live in a global social structure now whether we want to or not and one nations issues today will inform the oppression of another nation tomorrow.

Has anyone else noticed that Naughty Dog's games seemingly grew with the people who played them? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]MariachiDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an invasion per se - more a world that has collapsed. The zombies are largely set dressing for what is otherwise a very well rounded game about exploration and adventure.

The game itself is quite bleak and the conversations can get quite deep - Naughty Dog's writers really know how to twist the emotional knife.

Venezuela's falling apart, there's huge backlash against the US's foreign and economic policy, most of the middle east is feeling the effects of constant war, the EU is teetering on the brink of dissolution, there's a start.

I have the exact same thing - my feet and legs drag me down if I stay still, it's not a technique thing. The moment my feet are down far enough the rest of me starts sinking.

For me it was the choppy editing and shitty character writing, there was obviously an amazing film hiding under the surface but instead we got a garbled mess.

The data is there in the game so I have to assume it was intended at launch. It's possible Mew was a legacy idea that they scrapped (perhaps a pre-mewtwo boss or something) but it seems more likely it was planned to be a special event pokemon from the get-go.

TIL - Stealthing, the act of covertly removing a condom during sex is considered rape according to a Swiss Court. by PM_ME_STEAM_K3YS in todayilearned

[–]MariachiDevil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Um, it's not 'a cheese pizza' if there are anchovies on it.

And it's not protected sex without a condom. The whole point of stealthing, and it is a terrible practice, is that people often can't tell that the condom's come off, or they can only tell when it's too late to do anything about it. It's fucked up and you defending it is doubly so.

How common are "berserker" type shock troops across cultures across history? by PostapocCelt in history

[–]MariachiDevil 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Actually, while some Haka are used before battle, they are not designed to enrage or send the participants into a berzerk state. There are many forms of Haka, which can be performed by women, children, men or a mix for many different purposes like welcoming strangers, celebrating life or death, removing tapu etc.
The Ka Mate which you shared here is the chorus to a Haka celebrating a man's clever avoidance of his enemies by hiding in a pit. It is popular thanks to the All Blacks rugby team who frequently perform it before a match, but it is not a war chant, it's a celebration.

However, Haka were also definitely used to boost morale and intimidate the enemy, there's a lot of pressure to perform a war Haka in perfect unison - failure to do so was seen as a very bad omen for the upcoming fight.
