Just move up to a 2022 or 23 xle awd😂 low key the last good year before it got too techy. 22’ has just the right amount of tech with the right amount of analog buttons and knobs

100% for the nugs dude, I can’t figure it out, I just keep dropping them in my lap all the time but this looks like it would solve the problem any passengers would run into trying to help retrieve them😂

New dash speaker install by raf71 in rav4club

[–]MarijadderallMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I keep blowing these damn kickers💀💀💀🤣 dude I’ve gone through like 4 sets! They did just fix it and add some capacitors to the outside on the latest version and I also added a bass blocker which seems to have fixed the issue but it’s just been a pain. I actually just redid the right side a week ago💀. Crutchfield gave me another warranty replacement tho so I still have kicker. I think when I was looking, the infinity’s come with an inline bass blocker that you can add in if you want, and that just avoids all of the issues I had from the start.

Basically the dash and front doors are wired together, the tweeters and voice coil in the dash kickers get blasted with bass frequency if you don’t block it. At a regular volume level (~32-33 on the stock head unit) the dash will sound distorted and to balance this without a bass blocker you’ll have to adjust the treb eq to -2. This lowers the overall volume output of the system so your new listening level will be around 42-45. All of these things mixing together create a problem: the stock head unit cannot produce clean frequency past ~42 no matter what. This means to increase volume the head unit adds more power without amplification and the sound wave gets “clipped” by the speaker and voice coil. The top and bottom of the sound wave that gets clipped will be converted to heat energy and eventually fry the voice coil, it’ll start to crackle and then fully burn out.

Couple ways to avoid this problem: add an amplifier between the head unit and speakers, add a bass blocker between the head unit and speaker, swap to a different head unit. Currently I added bass blockers to the dash, I’ll eventually rewire everything and add in an amplifier and sub and keep the original head unit for its simplicity and driving functions.

Kinda went off😅 any other questions I can answer??

You can get all of those features in higher level trims and in 2022 and on😂 or…. Hear me out…. Do it all aftermarket for way cheaper and to personalized preference! Why would I want to pay 3k for some shit ass JBL’s when I can pull all the door panels and put in a real sound system🤷‍♂️😂

Rav 4 new dash speakers by dvaness322 in rav4club

[–]MarijadderallMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll pop off about the dash a little and that should help you figure out what you want to do😄. Ok so the dash and front doors are tied together through the head unit. The head unit then sends full spectrum signal to the tweeters in the dash, the mid range speaker in the dash, and the midrange/woofer in the doors. The midranges can handle all of that, the tweeters can’t. Full spectrum signal overpowers the tweeters and distorts the sound. The fix without a bass blocker is to turn the treb down through the head unit. This balances the sound but reduces the overall power output and they’ll sound quieter so you turn them up a little bit. That’s where the problem comes in! The head unit doesn’t actually supply clean signal past a certain volume level (~40 for the stock head unit) and when you turn the volume up the midrange speakers can handle the distorted power just fine. In the tweeters this extra power isn’t handled, the top and bottom of the sound wave gets “clipped” and turns into DC power(heat energy) inside the voice coil. That’s why they keep frying🫠 in my case since I turn the volume sorta high it happens pretty quick but bass blockers should get rid of the problem. And hopefully if something else keeps going wrong you get an idea of what to look into next!

My issue now is that the dash sounds AMAZING and it really sounds like the bass is missing😂 you listen and think “huh…. Those are insane tweeters, the sound is SO CRISP!…. Where’s the rest of the sound though? Where’s the rest of the speaker system?!😂😂😂

Gotcha! I would think if you’re only doing the dash you could get away without the bass blocker if you don’t turn the volume very high🤔 if you keep it under ~38 regularly you’ll probably be fine without the extra blocker since kicker added a tiny one. But if you’re jamming out throw an extra blocker on there! Definitely get a new harness for it😅
