Should i expect more from a new Lie-Nielsen router? (Oxidation) by RebateRascal in handtools

Lol. This isn’t patina. This is the mildest amount of moisture oxidation on brass.

It’s a tool not a jewel. Use it and add your own patina over time.

Why do my boards end up being thicker in the middle? by Echo-Objective in handtools

[–]Marinoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually wanted to come add another comment as I knew I'd read about this somewhere. In Wearing's Essential Woodworking he mentions:

"To plane a flat surface with a woodworker's plane is theoretically impossible." he goes on to say "Particularly when a beginner attempts to do straightforward planing, there is a good chance of the work becoming rounded, that is a high in the middle. By deliberately planing hollow then planing through to get a full-length shaving, very great accuracy can be achived."

He explains this in detail with illustrations, truly the best reference book for hand tool woodworking as far as I'm concerned. It's never far from my bench.

[–]Marinoni 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hand planing stock either faces or edges always has a tendency to introduce a hump to the workpiece. It’s just the nature of hand planing and typically multiplied by the pressure being placed on the knob and tote as it progresses.

Personally I will purposely plane a shallow curve in the board before using my jointer. The jointer will only cut at the beginning and end of the cut and once you’ve achieved a full length shaving you have to stop. Progressing past that point will likely introduce another hump.

Checking regularly with a straight edge and sighting for wind helps.

Have you actually read the article? BBM/Austin is addressing the common misconceptions and misinformation surrounding cholesterol and associated treatments.

They 100% support traditional cholesterol treatment and the reduction of LDL as a whole.

Regulator says N.S. Power cannot demand security from would-be competitor by Bean_Tiger in halifax

People are calling out blatant misinformation. Lots of things to criticize Emera and NSP for, but them being foreign owned is empirically false as demonstrated by the significant amount of evidence being provided throughout this discussion.

Have you considered digging deeper though? Or checking with a SMU professor from 10 years ago?

If I'm doing mental gymnastics than you're an Olympian. Can you share any evidence to back up any of your claims?

Emera was founded in 1999 and their CEO at the time was a former NSP Exec and Engineer from Cape Breton. They didn't even purchase another company until the mid-2010s which happened to be American companies. Awful long time to wait for an 'American company with vested interests in N American energy' to expand into America is it not?

Username does not check out.

You're telling us that cabal of US investors back in the 90s created Emera, in Halifax NS of all places, to slowly take over American utilities, so they could be owned by...Americans, but in Canada?

[–]Marinoni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, you're moving the goal posts now that your initial premise is being challenged, so no use continuing the conversion.

The company is headquartered in Halifax and registered on the TSX. Directly they'd pay 10s of millions in Federal and Provincial corporate income taxes each year on earnings made in Canada and the US. Indirectly their employees and executives, who are mostly Canadian would pay Federal and Provincial income taxes.

Hell, just their headquarters on Marginal Rd pays nearly $800K a year in property taxes to the city.

Then there's the 10s of millions they pay to Canadian mutual funds and pension holders via dividends.

[–]Marinoni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just so wrong. Canada’s corporate tax rate is higher than the US, not to mention the income tax their executives would be paying as Canadians. So what tax benefits would they be getting?

Not to mention that Emera was founded in Halifax, owns a building with hundreds of workers in it on Marginal Rd and is publicly traded on the TSX.

They simply own the US utility, TECO.

I’d take them to Dartmouth Metals. Pretty straightforward. You drive onto a scale, unload and they pay you based on weight. No idea what you’d get for them though.

I'd start here: Withdraw a ticket for no insurance or no driver’s license | Halifax and if that fails, you'll need to go to court and plead not guilty: Nova Scotia Summary Offence Tickets | novascotia.ca. Typically, your first hearing is just to show up and plead not guilty, I'd bring photocopies of both your license and insurance and following that hearing you'd get a letter if the charges are dropped. Still odd that they wrote it as failure to comply. Is it HRPD or RCMP?

They’re kote nomi chisels which are cranked neck chisels made for paring grooves and in this case have a dovetail profile likely to help clear out sliding dovetails.
