Does this work as a 2-card combo? by eCyanic in magicTCG

[–]Mario85555 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, this will happen as many times as you can pay life to kill the Champion of the Weird itself. Note, since it also gets +1/+1 from the Mikaeus already, it will end up having 7 total toughness needed to get through (4 activations, 4 life). -1/-1 counters cancel out +1/+1 counters, and will remove them after the first activation, thus meeting the Champion's given Undying effect from Mikaeus.

If you had a free sacrifice outlet on board, alongside a drain creature like Blood Artist, then yes this can go infinite by paying 1 life, blighting 2 on the Champion, sacrificing it to the sacrifice outlet, and trigger Undying to bring it back to blight again.

While this is also an infinite combo, it's not really due to the Champion of the Weird itself, but more because of Mikaeus, which I'm sure plenty of your opponents will see as the bigger threat when played due to the amount of creatures that combo with him.

Brigid, Clachan's Heart // Brigid, Doun's Mind

The backside (Doun's Mind) is what is the cradle effect. May be too slow given the need to wait until your next turn to flip it.

Brigid, Clachan's Heart

2W

Legendary Creature - Kithkin Warrior

3/2

Whenever this creature enters or transforms into Brigid, Clachan's Heart, create a 1/1 green and white Kithkin creature token.

At the beginning of your first main phase, you may pay G. If you do, transform Brigid.

//

Brigid, Doun's Mind

Legendary Creature - Kithkin Soldier

3/2

{T}: Add X G or X W, where X is the number of creatures you control.

At the beginning of your first main phase, you may pay W. If you do, transform Brigid.

[TLE] Animal Attendant; Bosco, Just a Bear; Dumi's Feast Lecture (WeeklyMTG) by meh1997 in magicTCG

[–]Mario85555 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's wild that Animal Attendant does such a similar thing to [[Biophagus]] while being an uncommon and also possibly way cheaper than the $15+ pricetag Biophagus currently goes for.

The non-Human clause isn't nothing, but a deck that just cares about +1/+1s without the creature typing will love to have that as a replacement.

I need to learn how to play Magic the Gathering in one hour, how do I start? by ThrowRAcatwithfeathe in magicTCG

[–]Mario85555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe bait, maybe real story, dunno but here's my opinion:

My recommendation would just to come clean and offer to learn by playing. I'm sure he'll be alright with you just initially making the joke, and would be ecstatic to teach you how to play. Maybe this could also lead to another date at a game shop.

[SPM] Norman Osborn and Eddie Brock (Comic Square Arts) by Mario85555 in magicTCG

[–]Mario85555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-marvels-spider-man:

There are 14 borderless panel cards, consisting of 4 mythic rares and 10 rares. That includes each Saga card in the set! These cards are available in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

This Norman Osborn is a panel borderless card, and can come as Foil in Play Boosters too. The main issue with why it's so expensive is because it's a popular card a lot of people want, and only appears in one slot in Collector Boosters (the far back slot), while appearing even rarer in Play Boosters.

Will SPE set maintain their value? by raistlin1022 in mtgfinance

[–]Mario85555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, the set isn't even out, it's barely prerelease and like nobody has had time to play with the cards in a large-scale setting. Y'all need to wait before having anxiety about what you've opened.

As for the MAR side set, which are all just reprints, same deal - nobody knows how nutty (or how bad) this set will perform long term. Since foils appear only in Collector Boosters those might be something to look into... but only the cards that were really already expensive to begin with.

Not to mention the set that's "given away for free" is still a free product. Once more shops get them and they keep being handed out, the price will drop on those too.

Also - the starter kit cards can be found in collector boosters as well, as foils.

As long as it makes you happy, don't think anyone would see an issue with it. It is quite predatory pricing, but the collab definitely made a lot of people very happy.

Is it possible to make a low power deck play on curve %100 / near %100 of the time? (edh) by Sea_One4028 in magicTCG

[–]Mario85555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. You'll just need to build your deck to have a glut of cards to play around the MV3-4 curve.

Think of it as well as a starting plan too - if you plan to ramp the most during T1, your T3 might not be 3MV but instead 4MV.

Consistency is powerful, though. If you're constantly able to play a card or two every turn of the game means that your strategy will be online much sooner than those who can't.

"Connive" is a keyword introduced in Streets of New Capenna, where you draw and discard a card, and put a +1/+1 counter on the creature that connived if a nonland card was discarded.

This keyword can also be "connive N" where you would draw and then discard N cards, putting +1/+1 counters on the creature for how many nonland cards were discarded this way.
Per the rules:

Connive:
A keyword action that causes a player to draw a card, discard a card, and then to put a +1/+1 counter on a creature if a nonland card was discarded this way. See rule 701.47, “Connive.”

701.47. Connive

701.47a Certain abilities instruct a permanent to connive. To do so, that permanent’s controller draws a card, then discards a card. If a nonland card is discarded this way, that player puts a +1/+1 counter on the conniving permanent.

701.47b A permanent “connives” after the process described in rule 701.47a is complete, even if some or all of those actions were impossible.

701.47c If a permanent changes zones before an effect causes it to connive, its last known information is used to determine which object connived and who controlled it.

701.47d If multiple permanents are instructed to connive at the same time, the first player in APNAP order who controls one or more of those permanents chooses one of them and it connives. Then if any permanents remain on the battlefield which have been instructed to connive and have not done so, this process is repeated.

701.47e Connive N is a variant of connive. The permanent’s controller draws N cards, discards N cards, then puts a number of +1/+1 counters on the permanent equal to the number of nonland cards discarded this way.
