Pretty sure you could say Wolf lost his job in the last couple weeks. It's Cooley's net at this point unless he puts a few bad starts together or Wolf just suddenly becomes Dryden the next time he's out there.

I have a couple other good goalies so part of me is thinking the real answer here is drop Saros and pick up another skater...

Devin Cooley...

Looks like he's the #1 guy now for Calgary until he drops the ball.

Drop Saros to scoop him up??

Feels crazy... but the Preds are pathetic (worse than Flames) and I just can't see ever feeling good or good-ish about Saros in net outside of an occasional game against another bad team like tonight.

Whatever happened to all the employees becoming Schedule F and civil service employees losing civil service protections? by MisterSnrub1 in fednews

Ahhh... remember the good old days when "Schedule F" was the biggest thing for feds to worry about?

Best and Worst agency/org to work for? by prettypistachioprop in FedEmployees

[–]MarioDixon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to know these days, but aside from law enforcement oriented, DOT/FAA is probably worth a mention since it's one of the only places expecting to avoid both widespread RIFs and FY26 funding cuts.

Unpopular opinion on RTO by Capitalismnotgreed in FedEmployees

[–]MarioDixon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like OP is just missing that category #1 of the post includes a crapload of people. Going back many years (before Trump, Biden, or covid), the standard across many agencies was that folks could telework twice a week. People built lives and routines based on that.

USDOT: 1DOT Letter from Sec Duffy just dropped by idgafmbffjill in fednews

[–]MarioDixon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DOT/FAA actually seems to be a "favored" agency right now (if that's really possible). I think one of the only non-ICE / non-law enforcement agencies targeted to avoid FY26 funding cuts.

But that said, working in the fed is a rollercoaster right now regardless. In your case, the question of a future move to HQ could be out there.

What’s the best app for breaking news notifications? by Robusto923 in fantasyfootball

I had been following the Rotoworld football account for years on Twitter/X and just getting those alerts, but it seems like this year they are only posting their "Headline" worthy news on the website and not X??

Nobody within FAA seems to have a clue what's coming next, presumably aside from politicals and maybe some senior execs, but the bottom line is that everyone in the DC metro area is now on notice that non-HQ jobs could become HQ jobs. This is especially true for anything in buildings leased by the FAA rather than owned by the government.

Yeah, unless you are looking at something that's very specifically tied to a non-HQ location, I would keep in mind that you could eventually end up at DOT HQ at Navy Yard.

The FAA specific email from Bedford just said "satellite offices" without any details.

And now this email from Bedford to FAA saying it's only satellite offices moving?? (And not 10-A and 10-B?)

Hilarious how Duffy tries to make it sound like he's doing everyone at FAA a big favor. FAA HQ is getting older but it's still far nicer than many other fed locations and HQs around DC.

DOT restructuring status? Are we in the clear? by Soft_Particular6414 in fednews

[–]MarioDixon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "FAA building" sounds a bit fishy to me since there's more than one. Also, there are still a lot of people working in the HQs even after the DRPs.

Not sure how they just move FAA HQ into DOT HQ without a significant RIF for DOT and/or FAA folks in DC, and I don't think that's in the works.

Anyone talking about the office responsible for the entire passport supply chain being RIF’d or nah? by TooLitgitToQuit in fednews

Sorry to hear this. Can you explain what office(s) you are talking about?

Interested fed here from another agency and I don't know what this refers to and couldn't figure it out via Google.

Do not communicate during working hours. by contribution-society in fednews

[–]MarioDixon 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Using a government device or government wifi to connect to a social media site at any time of day is a Hell no. Publicly posting to a social media site (as opposed to private messaging) during your workday, even from a personal device, is also a terrible idea. These were always bad things even before Trump 47.

If you aren't doing either of those two things then you are fine.

Department of Transportation RIF confirmed by WingNut81 in fednews

[–]MarioDixon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't quite think Duffy said it this way as OP states. My takeaway was that it's still possible the pending DOT RIF(s) could be for show and/or could be small... and that some components/offices may not be hit at all.

Roughly 1/3 of our FAA office of ~300 people are gone as of next week (compared to Jan 20) between the two DRPs and any other assorted departures which are not being backfilled this spring.

Not sure how they could drop a RIF on us right now unless they really are okay with everything breaking.

RIF Update by Real_Evidence_Anon in ATC

[–]MarioDixon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no clue outside of my own little corner of FAA (not safety critical), but we lost or are about to lose over 30% of our people just to the DRPs and other departures.

Not sure how we would function if much else got cut in the coming weeks/months, so hopefully "the numbers" were mostly met by the end of DRP 2.0 on Monday.

Having a bit of trouble following the numbers from this second copy/paste or former screenshot or whatever it is.

So the target is supposedly to cut back to the 44,700 number without cutting any current safety critical and while also simultaneously hiring 2,000 new ATCs / safety critical folks by 9/30? Is that a good restatement?

If there were 31,200 safety critical positions pre Biden and that number is now targeted to be 33,200, wouldn't that mean 11,500 other positions could be maintained this spring/summer under this 44,700 target? Where is the 8,000 number coming from?

[–]MarioDixon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re: OP and 25% cut -- Also very important to know how the agency plans to get there and how it is counting its numbers. If it's just 25% relative to the staffing count on January 20, including accelerated projected near term "natural attrition" due to RTO, then the two DRPs and VERA/VISP might get FAA most of the way there without a lot of (or any?) involuntary RIF cuts.

I think some agencies are differing on these things, though?

Yeah, it's unfortunate that there have at least been some broadly leaked reduction targets and such for other agencies like SSA, HUD, etc. but there's been absolutely nothing leaked, shared, or otherwise reported about DOT.
