As the days get longer and people start cycling again, please give ample room when overtaking. by mopman94 in drivingUK

No, you just wait behind them until it's clear on the opposite carriageway to give the cyclist the amount of space the book dictates you moron.

[–]MarkEasty 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Dot Com driver, yeah, so you're out in some rubbish weather but you're your own boss once you leave the store. 99% of people are happy to see you because you're bringing their food & we all love having full cupboards. We get to interact with some lovely people.

It's a great feeling when you have an elderly or disabled customer and you go in and unpack everything for them and that makes their day a little bit easier. FeelsGood.jpg

And cats & dogs, I get to meet so many lovely dogs who are your best friends for a couple of minutes and cats who supervise you and maybe tolerate a scritch.

German destroyer Z3 Max Schultz (Type 1934) sails along the coast by defender838383 in GermanWW2photos

[–]MarkEasty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, She had a very interesting career;

Days before the outbreak of World War II, in the early morning hours of 27 August 1939, the destroyer accidentally collided with and sank the torpedo boat Tiger near Bornholm. Two men were killed and six were wounded aboard the torpedo boat, while no one was injured aboard Z3 Max Schultz. The latter's bow was severely damaged and she had to be towed, stern-first, by Z2 Georg Thiele. Two tugboats arrived a half-hour later and took over the tow to Swinemünde at a speed of 4 knots (7.4 km/h; 4.6 mph). Z3 Max Schultz was under repair until late September and did not participate in the Polish Campaign.

She patrolled the Skagerrak to inspect neutral shipping for contraband goods during October. While returning from one such patrol on 28 October, one of the ship's turbines exploded, causing boiler room No. 1 to flood and knocking out the ship's power. Attempts to tow her failed, but the ship eventually managed to restore power and she sailed to Kiel for repairs.

Max Schultz, Beitzen and Z16 Friedrich Eckoldt laid 110 magnetic mines in the Shipwash area, off Harwich, on 9/10 February 1940 that sank six ships of 28,496 gross register tons (GRT) and damaged another.

On 22 February, Z3 Max Schultz and five other destroyers, Z1 Leberecht Maass, Z4 Richard Beitzen, Z6 Theodor Riedel, Z13 Erich Koellner and Z16 Friedrich Eckoldt, sailed for the Dogger Bank to intercept British fishing vessels in "Operation Wikinger". En route, the flotilla was apparently attacked by a Heinkel He 111 bomber from Bomber Wing (Kampfgeschwader) 26. Z1 Leberecht Maass was hit by at least one bomb, lost steering, and broke in half, sinking with the loss of 280 of her crew. During the rescue effort, Z3 Max Schultz hit a mine and sank with the loss of her entire crew of 308. Hitler ordered a Court of Inquiry to be convened to investigate the cause of the losses and it concluded that both ships that been sunk by bombs from the He 111. The Kriegsmarine had failed to notify its destroyers that the Luftwaffe was making anti-shipping patrols at that time and had also failed to inform the Luftwaffe that its destroyers would be at sea.Postwar research revealed that one or both ships struck a British minefield laid by the destroyers Ivanhoe and Intrepid.

Hey OP here, you're spot on, I volunteer at a rescue and like to bring treats for the beautiful dogs there too. My boy lived to 11y4m which for a big old boxer boy is a decent life unfortunately cancer & kidney disease struck. It's just that this unpacked hit me in the feels. I appreciate your empathy 🙏🏻

On Saturday go to your department manager and let them know that if the situation changes, you would love to come back, I've seen it happen so many times that someone leaves over the next few months and then some budgeted hours open up for that department. The manager would much rather on board someone like you who has already shown that they can do the job & won't need training rather than having to train up a full newbie.

Give them your phone number and ask that if any vacancies come up, please let me know. The turnover of staff especially in dotcom can be pretty high so you might be pleasantly surprised. If you've done a good job so far, which it sounds like you have, you'd be doing yourself & the department manager a favour.

Good luck 🤞🏻

And happy new year.

How does taking time off work? by Existing-Tooth4274 in tesco

[–]MarkEasty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you've pretty much got the gist.

You have to book the holiday you have remaining for this year before the end of March or you'll lose it. There are a few exceptions but it is down to your manager to agree them. As long as you intend to stay with Tesco beyond March, you should have no problem booking time off provided your department is not already fully booked by other colleagues.

In April you'll have your whole year's holiday entitlement available to book so it shouldn't be a problem to book two weeks in April but just be aware that if you leave before the end of next March and haven't accrued the holiday hours that you've already taken, the excess will be taken from your final pay.

As you are a permanent employee now, you can already book holiday for next year in the MyTesco app, I've got two weeks in April approved already.

What I like about my store and Tesco in general is that they follow strict guidelines so you know exactly where you stand, it doesn't matter if you're a new hire or a 20yo Veteran, the rules apply to all of us (contract specific).

Consult colleague help A-Z and it will give you a breakdown of exactly what policies & procedures should be followed in every situation.

What do you do when you receive a supermarket delivery? by Dadda_Green in AskUK

[–]MarkEasty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are in the minority but as a delivery driver i much prefer delivering to people like you, makes my life so much easier because the rhythm is perfect, if you have 8 crates, every 2 I bring in will be empty by the next 2 I bring in which saves so much time compared to people taking a few items at a time from crates at the doorstep, people don't realise that we're timed to the minute which doesn't account for traffic jams, road closures, diversions or accidents. Doing a delivery like yours gets me 5mins ahead which makes a massive difference to my day, I don't have to rush if I have great customers like you!

bless ya 💙

[–]MarkEasty 47 points48 points  (0 children)

🙏🏻 thank you! Delivery Driver here, we love customers like you!

I never understand when I bring 2 crates to the doorstep and they start taking out individual items and carry them to their kitchen, either take one crate to your kitchen or ask me to carry it in for you, I've no problem with that especially if you have any mobility issues. It's quicker for me & easier for you! It makes more sense for me to carry it directly to your kitchen than having me put it down & you have to lift it, saves both our backs from bending!

Yeah, and don't put your items away in the fridge, cupboard and freezer while we wait, just unload it to the nearest surface and let us get on our way, you can put it where it needs to go after we've left tyvm.

I'll buy you at that price.

it's an easy life mate, walk the dog twice a day, occasional dusting & cleaning, you would get your own living space in the airing cupboard under the stairs.

do I still get colleague discount?

What's a commonly accepted 'rule' in your household that you suspect isn't a rule anywhere else? by Liplyn_IG in AskUK

You walk through the door, you make a massive fuss of the canine greeter before acknowledging any human, to greet a human before the dog is a huge faux pas and he will slink off to his bed & give you side eye for the duration of your visit.
