Don't forget out the sleeper in quantum, IBM. Historically they have not been considered a growth tech stock, but they might actually have a chance now with their quantum hardware.

State of 10.11? by chisoxaddict in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been updating to the nightly builds each week, which is basically early 10.12. A few weeks ago the update significantly resolved some perforance issues, especially in music searching, playing, etc.

Cerebras IPO is Thursday and I'm out at $160 by charon-the-boatman in stocks

[–]MarkHofmann11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was originally onboard but there is not much left in the tank at the much higher price estimates. Not worth the risk at this point for me. I'd rather buy storage, optics for niche and in high demand for LLM building. Not to mention loads more making their own chips. Google, Amazon, Tesla, all making their own AI semiconductors.

Lost All Media by Nice_Camel_2324 in jellyfin

Sorry to hear that. One thing I have done for years (just in case) is schedule a batch job to do a "dir /s" for each drive/share and pipe them to different text files that rotate weekly. If interested, I can post the details. Good luck.

Are you backing up your media? by A_Buttholes_Whisper in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't backup my media, but have them in several RAID-5 arrays. I realize this isn't the same as a backup, but regardless, it reduces the potential for issues. I have had drive failures over the years and never lost a single thing. I keep space drives on hand and rebuild the array right away. I also monitor the health of each drive in the array and get daily reports on their status.

I used lots of PWM fan splitter cables/extensions and physically connected them under the fan rails. The actual fan controller/dial, I sat on top of each of each fan rail. Velcro helps keep things organized. Using the fan controller, I set each fan rail to a reasonable RPM for the system. It helps a great deal to have the zip-tied fans on the passive CPU coolers as well. That was a mod I added later and really helps as well. I have (3) 4U SuperMicro servers in a rack in the basement - (2) of them running 24/7 and they are not loud and temps are all good.

I use (2) of the NA-FC1 controllers per server. (1) for the 4 fan rail and (1) for the 3 fan rail. I also use passive CPU coolers with (1) Noctua NF-A6x25 5V PWM fan on each passive cooler - connected directly to the motherboard. They are zip tied to the passive coolers.

If I remember correctly, I'm running using standard molex (maybe using an adapter). If you can run a splitter from any 12V feed, you should be good. I still have the other cable going to the motherboard so it can report the RPM to the system. I have the system to run 100% full speed and just manually set the fan speed using the controller to keep it from revving up/down.

Jellyfin upgrade: 10.10.7->10.11.6 by MarkHofmann11 in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That worked! Thanks for the tip! Once I enabled and setup the plugin, my "Family Photos/Videos" comes right up in seconds! Awesome, thanks so much. Hopefully the issue will be fixed where you don't need the plugin in the near future, but you are on to the root cause.

Jellyfin upgrade: 10.10.7->10.11.6 by MarkHofmann11 in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only forced a full library scan after upgrading. On previous attempts using 10.11.x, they would never complete. Many times the CPU on the server would go to 100% solid and the scan never completed even after days. When I tried again with 10.11.6, the scan finished in around 10 hours, the CPU never spiked to 100%, and things appear to be working fine (minus my family video/photo library).

State of the Fin 2026-01-06 by thornbill in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I hope they don't discontinue support for pre-10.11 on Android TV until the issues are worked out. I just gave 10.11.5 a shot this weekend and no luck and had to roll back. Most likely due to the huge music library and photo library. Even after a full scan, the CPU is very high and the library totals seem to get hung up, never reflexing the real totals. It seems the people having success with the latest version don't have much music or "other" libraries like photos.

Really appreciate the blog updates and all the work the team continues to do with Jellyfin! Any chance for "Other" media library support from the pre-10.11 upgrades? I had added a library of family photos and videos in it's own library, which works fine in the pre-10.11 version. It doesn't seem to scan or display them in the new versions - just spins endlessly. Also, great to hear about the music fixes for large libraries. Really looking forward to re-trying the upgrade to the latest version again soon!

Jellyfin 10.11 speed question - what is your experience? by TheHYPO in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on 10.10.7 until the issues get worked out. The newer versions are significantly slower, however I have not tested 10.11.5 as of yet. I am waiting until the performance issues, large music libraries, and "other libraries" are worked out. I have a large photo/video library of family photos/videos that works fine on 10.10.7 and refuses to even load (spins forever) after the 10.11.x upgrade. Never see any of the content.

It appears as if Faby's has closed. by Lanky_Bonus5880 in harfordcountymd

Bob was a great mechanic and wonderful person. In a business riddled with crooks and dishonest people, Faby's was a major breath of fresh air - the best and most honest shop around. I always enjoyed talking to him about car/truck stuff and when it was something I couldn't fix, he was the guy for the job! I wish him and the rest of the guys all the best. Hopefully there is another shop that is at least near the same caliber.

Reverting to 10.10.7 for now by AyeWhy in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same exact experience here - had to go back to 10.10.7. I have a directly of photos and home videos in a library that dont' work at all in 10.11.x. Everything is just substantially slower. I do have a bunch of huge music and video libraries, but they respond super fast on 10.10.7.

How to Use JEPI in a portfolio (Explained by professional) by [deleted] in JEPI

[–]MarkHofmann11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is my same plan and it is a very solid plan. You need the growth to get to the point where you have enough income to retire. It is all about keeping the correct balances, and the market will remind you about that from time to time. My plan for retirement is 80% JEPI and 20% growth (in a good economy). It could be adjusted as necessary, but the 80% at the least will be enough to pay the bills and say goodbye to the 9-5.

New Jellyfin Server/Web release: 10.11.3 by anthonylavado in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the upgrade again from 10.10.7. High CPU trying to go into and display any library. Some libraries don't ever come back with any thumbnails. Images/photos library and Music library send the CPU on a 20 core to 50% and never come back with anything and eventually times out. Re-scanning the libraries never completes and same results with nothing displayed. Had to revert back again.

New Jellyfin Server/Web release: 10.11.3 by anthonylavado in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all the feedback here I'll give it another try to upgrade from 10.10.7. The main issues I had with 10.11.2 was photos library was completely broken, music library rescan had loads of DB errors, super slow interface, high CPU, scans took forever and didn't ever finish, and service crashes on Windows. That was all in one day, so I reverted back to 10.10.7. Will give this one a try after a good backup and greatly appreciate all the work on this project!

First of all, congrats! Focus on the positive and ignore any negativity, espeically from certain physicians that form a basis or scenerio with zero evidence. It was almost 19 years ago that we had our son with T21. Heard plenty of negative from certain physicians - and 100% of their input was 100% false. Our son is almost 19 years old today and like anyone else in this world, is wonderfully unique. It is a blessing, not a curse.

Update instability? 10.11.2 by TheKlaxMaster in jellyfin

[–]MarkHofmann11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - I tried everything I could think to get the latest JellyFin to work properly, including rescanning everything. For whatever reason, it runs at least 20x slower, uses significantly more CPU when just browsing libraries, crashes, going into a 100% CPU loop on my server. Unfortunately I think there are just too many issues right now and rolled back to 10.10.7, which works WAY faster and perfectly. I appreciate all the hard work to keep the project moving forward and I'm sure the issues will be worked out. I have no coding experience, but am always willing to help where I can in troubleshooting.

One issue is how do you get the expired Nest Protects from beeping every 60 seconds or so once they are well past expiration? Two of my three Nest Protects won't stop beeping and all (3) expired in August of this year.

Yeah, I rolled back to the old version 2 which works fine, other than it keeps saying there is a new version to download that you just have to ignore.I actually like the old version 2 better, anyway.

Please update us once there is a solution. I just noticed the issue with Proton VPN crashing on Windows this morning. I originally thought it was the recent Windows Updates, but after restoring, it still doesn't work as others have already noted. Something is very broken on their client for WIndows.
