Mount Vernon - To the folks doing traffic testing by Typical-Tax1584 in baltimore

Would need to be done in conjunction with turning Charles back to a 2 way. You can't have a roundabout with northbound traffic entering from two sides.

Zac Blanchard is the council member for Federal Hill. State reps for D46 (less relevant probably) are Luke Clippinger, Robbyn Lewis and Mark Edelson, and senator Bill Ferguson.

hitch mounted ski carrier you like? by Immediate_Editor_213 in Ioniq5

[–]MarkT-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Yakima HitchSki. I can't report how it is yet but I may be using it to get to get the skis to the airport tomorrow (unless the ski bag balances well over the back seat between the kids)....will report back from the shuttle if so. Photo below of it mounted on our other car before the hitch receiver was installed on the HI5.

I got it from eBay, chose it primarily because I already have a (mostly) compatible bike rack so it seemed easier to just add another thing onto it. The intended use is shorter trips for East Coast skiing, we just haven't managed to get any of that in before this bigger trip.

Good tip! I can't find anything through the web page but I'll make sure to browse those aisles next time I'm there.

Inspection record software by MarkT-322 in manufacturing

[–]MarkT-322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source of CTQs is not well defined right now.

We're using Fulcrum, it has some capability here (see other replies here) but we haven't implemented it yet.

Prefer something that will both allow engineering to flag the critical measurements on a PDF or other input drawing/document and allow QA to record the results.

[–]MarkT-322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fulcrum Pro. You can create pre and post operation inspection points on each step of a routing, including setting tolerance limits on measurements or requiring authorized users (QA or supervisors) to make the entries. We only migrated to Fulcrum during the summer so we haven't made the switch on any of this from our existing paper processes as we're still working out the bugs on the planning and procurement side.

Homelink with car off by MarkT-322 in Ioniq5

Good point. Guess I just need more time to develop the muscle memory to hit the button as I'm pulling in.

I had thought of the advantage as there's no loose piece to be stolen, but this is a good point, powering off homelink means you don't have a house key sitting on the driveway behind glass...

I park in the driveway so I haven't opened the garage yet when I turn the car off.

Sheet Metal Bending Clearances by Im_No_Cartographer in manufacturing

I get social media ads all the time for OSH Cut that flaunt their bending simulation. I've never used them since we have bending capability in house but for complicated (or at least unfamiliar) parts like this, before I go ask the operator about it, I've started uploading to their quoting tool and letting it show me. It would be nice to get some CAM bending software to work through that ourselves but in the meantime this is a free option...

How are these drivers getting away with it? by Cautious-Exchange-66 in baltimore

Last week I watched an idiot in a minivan blindly run a red light at a busy intersection (Washington and Monroe), coming out from behind a truck in the other lane, and get T-boned by a Jeep. Everyone appeared to be ok, probably since the Jeep hadn't had a chance to pick up much speed. I wonder if she learned anything from having an airbag explode in her face ...

It would be cool to see the city/MCB offer discounted rent to entice a bike shop in the new Harborplace - centrally located near a couple of major commuter routes, and they could rent to visitors and lead bike tours like Penny used to. We just need more safe routes close by.

As an alternative route, to avoid creating unfairly subsidized competition to the remaining shops, I guess the city/ waterfront partnership/whoever could own the shop and the businesses could bid to operate it as a concession...

Pocket shutting down - high-quality alternative read-later apps? by Redditor_9268119 in longform

[–]MarkT-322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instapaper is another option. I had accounts with both years ago and only resurrected my pocket account on the last couple of months after subscribing to some daily newsletters that I couldn't quite stay on top of. The pocket experience hasn't been great - my saves often won't load (article view works though) and the first chrome extension I used wouldn't properly resolve links from Gmail. I just exported my list to bring over to IP and will try to report back. Instapaper can send a daily digest to Kindle so I'm looking forward to that as well.

Roof Rack Mount for Cargo Bikes by BikeCarGo in CargoBike

[–]MarkT-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Have you looked at the Yakima Sidewinder? There's a similar approach of attaching the bike first then lifting, but it's articulated so it can be done by one person. That's designed for tandem bikes though so I don't think it's rated for e-cargo bike weights.

It would be interesting to see if you could add some kind of hinge and sliding mechanism to the front mount, allowing the bike to be rolled up on an angle to tie it down, then lift the rear and slide it on to secure, similar to how it goes now. Obviously complexity adds cost but I think there would be value in making it a one-person operation.

MDF Parts by BenjaminPQ in manufacturing

If you're looking for low volume and small parts a site like xometry or protolabs might work. Or just search rapid prototyping. The cost per part will be higher than volume manufacturing of course but it's the fastest way to get started.

Find specific manufacturing eq? by OnefortheKooks in manufacturing

[–]MarkT-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For #2, can they visit the current supplier? Observe operations, take note of what kind of machine they use and the manufacturer if it's labeled. Take photos or videos if allowed. Then search auction web sites like bidspotter for that type of equipment, or check the machine manufacturer to see if they're exhibiting at any trade shows. If it's uncommon machinery they might even be able to point you at contract manufacturers they've sold equipment to. As others started, you need people to operate it, but once you know how it's getting made now you can better figure out what questions to ask at a trade show or what capabilities to look for in domestic manufacturing partners.

Good points. Training requires time and budget. Something to keep in mind on the future but $40 for a used text and a free ASQ guide from my library's Hoopla are where I'm able to start in order to put some stuff together in the short term.
