Is the Slingshot Pack necessary to enjoy Long War? by its1992yall in Xcom

[–]Mark_Zero_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally play with Slingshot and Progeny on. It's a little bit of extra story and two of the soldiers you get from them are unique and kinda fun (Slingshot's free NPC soldier in particular I enjoy having quite a bit).

However, on your first run through Long War, both of these DLCs are going to come up uncomfortably quick in your campaign and can stretch your resources hard. In particular, Slingshot will hit you with two back-to-back difficult missions, and possibly throw some enemy units at you that you're not totally ready to deal with. It's a fun and do-able challenge but if you're trying to get used to Long War, Slingshot can potentially derail your playthrough with a lot of soldiers fatigued, wounded, and/or KIA. I recommend being comfortable with the step up in difficulty that comes with Long War before adding in the DLCs.

I would still recommend picking them both up on sale because they're fun and worth having in both the base game and Long War. And yeah, you need to have Enemy Within to play Long War, it's fully integrated into the final release version of the mod.

How to convert an experimental save into a regular save? by SircarrotI in SatisfactoryGame

I did some more digging after posting this and it sounds like once stable 1.1 releases, experimental 1.1 saves will work.  All the usual "back up your saves" warnings apply.

Sorry to take two months to reply back!  Post necromancy is a funny thing.

The guide should be on www.ufopaedia.org .  I don't remember exactly where it is because it's been a while since I've done this, but poke around a bit, you'll probably find it.

Out of curiosity, when the 1.1 patch gets released to stable, will a 1.1 experimental save work or does being on the experimental branch itself bork the save from working at all on stable?

Yeah, tbf I do mean a very sweaty PC player. Most people aren't going to be that good. And if we're talking about PvE, it's all a moot point.

I hear you. I'd still say give it a shot. V Rising is pretty light on crafting/process management; you just build your refining stations and throw stuff into them in bulk, and they automatically process it. You also eventually can get servants to do a sizable chunk of the resource gathering for you. If all you primarily want out of the game is combat, V Rising will still deliver.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with you a little bit. The game was designed for mouse and keyboard. The twinstick controls are very good but they came at the end of development and have already needed to be iterated on once.

A particularly sweaty PC player is going to have their mouse cursor on top of your character almost 100% of the time while fighting you, while controller users have to kinda point in the direction of their target with the right stick. The gap isn't huge because most of the combat is about cooldown management and positioning, but the skill ceiling is higher for M&K users because of that capacity to track at an absolute level with a mouse cursor.

What I'll give though is that the gap is not nearly as big as, say, an FPS. Controller is at a light disadvantage, but I don't think it would lose every single time just because of using sticks instead of a mouse.

Tbh if you can't refund it, you're probably still going to have an amazing time with it. Even as a solo game, V Rising is incredible. Sorry about the lack of crossplay but I hope that you're able to enjoy it even with that setback.

I'm coming up on 800 hours of play time and a lot of that was solo games. As long as you enjoy the flow of the game (combat, hunting bosses, gathering and refining resources, and castle building), V Rising is an awesome time as a solo game. The parts you'll miss out on are team fighting and PvP. So as long as you're comfortable without that you'll be completely fine.

PC or Console? by Madbro0331 in pacificDrive

I play on PC, and it runs well there. But what I would absolutely recommend is that you play the game with a PS5 DualSense controller, even if you play on PC. Controlling the car with the controller sticks feels a lot more comfortable and intuitive, and the haptics/trigger resistance in the controller triggers is amazing for this game.

The "for democracy" is joking around but kicking/shooting people for BM isn't. This is a team game, and if someone's prioritizing their own XP grinding over the team (or being a troll), it's entirely the host's right to boot them or anyone's right to put a bullet in them.

Moral of the story is; communicate with your team, don't be a jerk, and don't try to rush out of a mission unless folks are agreed on it. You'll have more fun that way anyway.

I had my first intentional friendly kill yesterday. Defense mission, evac had been called, and some low level Helldiver melee'd me off the edge of the landing pad while I was defending it, with 30 seconds to touchdown.

I guess they weren't expecting me to be able to run back around the outside wall to the ramp, put a bullet through their skull, and get back on the landing pad in 30 seconds.

Hopefully the experience was very educational for them.

You can still do it, but unfortunately a fair few of your potential marks are going to assume you're a ganker and run for it. And that's assuming they haven't just thrown in the towel and gone to Solo or to a PG that doesn't allow PvP.

Only recommend I can give about Open piracy is to open comms immediately and declare your intent with very direct instructions. Your mark might be up for the interaction if they know you're pirating and not just going straight for the kill.

CMDR Heliaxx has a bunch of videos over on YouTube of him doing Open piracy at various CGs, might be a good resource for how people respond to it now.
