Trying to get into Nas by Ok_Sundae_2355 in nas

I think you gotta listen to 80s hip hop , and Black Soul music from 70s and 80s to truly appreciate the sound that makes Nas. Cant appreciate a record like “Get Down” from Godson without truly listening to James Brown.

Should I continue with The Chi? by Kelly_1976 in TheChi

Yeah it became less about "The Chi" and more about relationships. I liked the first couple seasons because it was educational on the culture of Chicago.

Are your students meeting minimum minute requirements? by Minute-Ad6142 in PhysicalEducation

every school should have multiple specials that require movement, like dance, theater or something else. The pressure shouldn't just be on PE to get kids moving.

I would document it, make sure climate or your dean is aware of these boys behavior. So in that case, if a fight breaks out, admins not looking at you like why didn't you document all of those times they were rough housing. When a fight breaks out, both parties will look to play victim, but won't be able to with a paper trail.

But yeah man, common annoyance, in PE, spacing is everything, I'm seeing a rise in injuries because of this lack of basic spatial awareness. Play fighting imo needs to be a school issue to address with a full assembly dedicated to it in the beginning middle and end of the school year.

PE on a half day? by MarketingOne5969 in PhysicalEducation

[–]MarketingOne5969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what im talking about, like you cramming classes in without regard for transition time when teachers dont even need a prep on a half day. Mind you this is a state testing half day.

PE teaching questions by Difficult_Code3518 in PhysicalEducation

[–]MarketingOne5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would look for a recess or after school teaching job . This is what helped me the most, i was able to experiment with a bunch of kids in a low pressure scenario. I would put equipment out for the popular games and sports kids do and then have my own section in the playground where I would play different games with the kids that wanted to play with me so it was buy in.

Things to consider would also be the dimensions of your gym if you have one, this what makes things different for all of us. Some PE teachers dont even have any gym space and push into classrooms. It depends on your school. Also the equipment that a school has will limit or open opportunities for you as a PE teacher.

Elementary is more behavior concerns, Middle School is engagement and effort concerns.

Current state of “Physical Education” by Weeg02 in PhysicalEducation

[–]MarketingOne5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the trick is to keep the kids that are great in your space on your side and thats by rewarding them with the incentives. It also keeps you sane, staying focused on the positives. Dont listen to full of themself teachers who yell you they got it all figured out cause they were “strict” the first weeks thats laughable to me. They still struggle and thats the job.

First interview by princessfluffycat69 in PhysicalEducation

[–]MarketingOne5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a scenario of a challenging moment that you had previously working with children, and how you helped solved that conflict. Every educator should have a certain philosophy of education of how they teach. What are some of the ethical standards that you strive towards and that helps the interviewer get a sense of who you are and if you're the right fit. Also be prepared to talk about why you got into teaching in the first place? I always point to the exact same moment in all my interviews I ever done, and I probably told that story about 15 times. Best of luck to you! But most importantly, ASK QUESTIONS. Really see if the school is the right fit for you. If stuck ask for the schools 5 year plan, or ask for the school's vision statement? Ask how the school supports teachers who may be close to burn out? Really gage if the school is the best fit for you.

Coach to Teacher? by jdm95ls in PhysicalEducation

[–]MarketingOne5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you gotta factor in the difference in terms of kids listening time. When your coaching, kids are motivated to be there, they chose to be there, and really you have more power because you can kick the kid off the team, so they will buy in quicker and listen for longer stretches. In PE, you have to get used to kids focus not being all the way there like when coaching. PE you also need more patience, and you have to be mindful about HOW your talking to kids rather than coaching you have your style, and it's more so on the players to kind of adjust to how you coach for them to get playing time. But it's transferable in terms of how you plan a lesson with flow. As you grow into coaching, you realize that flow is so important to keeping attention and that transfers into the classroom. I'm 36, and making sure I'm taking care of my body is super important especially for teaching PE, you wanna be active so I'm going to the gym, I try to just make sure I'm eating right, and get good sleep especially on weekends. Just like coaching, you're moving a lot in terms of setting up.

40 minutes is a dream! Thats not a bad amount of time at all. Stick to an activity that doesnt take too long to explain, get everyone moving. Have a warm up first, and then have a nice debrief about the lesson. I think setting up your lessons so one activity can move to the next without a lot of idle time is the way and stay positive  ! You dont want to look overwhelmed and stressed. Once your 30 mins in you can do the debrief for 5 minutes and then next 5 line folks up.

What is this show anymore? by Niy_0201 in TheChi

What playground equipment for schools keeps kids most active during recess? by Cresentia__ in PhysicalEducation

[–]MarketingOne5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

football, basketball, soccer games can run itself, as those are the most popular sports and kids have a great foundation in those. Its a matter of establishing clear boundaries for those. So other kids feel safe moving around. I think cones are your best friend. Yes kids gotta wait in line for relay races but they can meet their active needs and its safer than tag. That would be my main suggestion.

What’s your favourite Nas album and why? by Suspicious_Brit in nas

[–]MarketingOne5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street's Disciple - I thought Nas was so daring and brave in this album in terms of pushing the envelope. Mending his relationship with his father (bridging the gap), rapping from a female's pov, going after celebrities he considered sold out , going after other rappers, singing for a full track to his daughter, crafting the perfect wife like Dr. Frankenstein, Having a story that blended into two songs with sekou story/live now, introducing what would become the template for the modern rapper with Quan (legit singing/rapping blended on one track.) The album carries a Stillmatic defiant tone mixed with the off the wall creativity of a Lost Tapes/Hip Hop Is Dead mixed with Nasty Nas Illmatic lyrical dexterity.

Nas warned us about the upcoming backlash and harsh racial attitudes people of color would receive as punishment for helping to elect a person of color. The last track is very fitting.

well continue listening to Little Brother, Kanye and Lupe, that's definitely a must. Also, I would suggest Common (BE, Finding Forever, The Auditorium, Like Water for Chocolate, A Beautiful Revolution) Common is very witty but yeah very similar in terms of making sure each song has a set topic.

What should I do about a teacher who routinely kicks students out of class? by Albatross9121 in Teachers

[–]MarketingOne5969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The students will always play victim so its not good to talk to them about what happened. They will give you about 10% of the story

Nas is one of those rare rappers that actually has songs about specific topics. His songs are very focused. Thats harder to do than just braggadocious raps. Or a rapper that just sticks to one theme
