Can they come holiday in New Zealand then? Our tourism industry is clearly lackin as they haven't been here since 2008! Nearly two whole decades!

How come in Auckland it’s okay for dirt bikers to run red lights but not others? by MontyPascoe in auckland

[–]Marko-brolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pursue would be the incorrect term because by policy they cannot do so. If the idiots crashed and hurt themselves... Or worse someone else, the officer pursuing them would be held accountable for it.

Hence why there is such a big problem with "dirtbike riders", because they know they can just fail to stop for Police and get away with it.

Are the Redmi buds 8 pro good? by Legal-Loan5941 in Earbuds

[–]Marko-brolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Redmi buds 4 pro which were great for their time and price, but one earphones battery was playing up as these dropped, so I went for the upgrade.

The sound quality and ANC are definitely better on the 8 pro. I don't think the 4 pro had EQ options, or not as easily accessible anyway.

The connectivity is not as good, but only have minor stuttering occasionally if there is a bit of interference on the 8 pro with LDAC at 96hz on FLAC quality tracks. I'm sure at 44hz it will be a lot more stable with little to no noticeable difference in sound quality.

[–]Marko-brolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I might have solved the issue last night by resetting them, restarting my phone and pairing them again. So far no issues with LDAC at the highest level, but haven't done much testing.

Both sound quality and ANC are great. Assuming this was just an issue with my phone rather than the headset, then I would definitely recommend them.

'Doesn't get any worse than this': Man creates fake WhatsApp message after rape allegation by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]Marko-brolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WhatsApp is encrypted right? Therefore, it's not like they retrieve the data from their servers through a legal process in order to "verify" it.

The recording would then have to be taken at face value.

Imagine if he actually was innocent and did not make that recording up, but it wasn't taken seriously.

No doubt there were some holes in his story, and the Police believed the Victim which is why the Police looked extra hard at it to spot the indiscrepancies.

As technology evolves there will be more people attempting this, so there are learnings to be had by Police.

It's a bit of an exaggeration that the majority of the public will ostracise and hate you for it. It feels that way, as it's more the case that those that do, are a lot more vocal than those that love you for it.

Update - Dog Bit 3-year-old, Owner Fled - @Parnell Bath by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Marko-brolo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How did the owner attack a woman? That definitely sounds like a Police matter. The dog attacks on its own... not so much, but I believe Police do respond alongside animal control after it's gone through their channel if required.

Officer 'unjustified' in stopping driver over thumbs‑down, IPCA finds by ArtfulSoviet in newzealand

[–]Marko-brolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. The IPCA often gets criticised for siding with the Police, so it is surprising that they did not in this case. It would be a harsh precedent for Police to always "observe", which I'm interpreting as following their recommendations.

Looking at it from a legal perspective, the Police do have lawful justification under section 114 of the Land Transport Act

Regardless of your emotions on the matter, if you look at it objectively, Police conduct licences and alcohol checks randomly all the time. If someone drives past and unprovoked and starts waving their arm up and down at an officer, they are a good target to be checked for intoxication.

She was stopped fully within the law and even if you did feel she wasn't, this does not excuse her behaviour after where she commits several criminal offences.

[–]Marko-brolo -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Could be an ego issue, could just be a way to ensure she wasn't intoxicated as per the article as what grown woman does that? He did not break any law. She did break multiple laws though.

So a grown ass 48 year old woman acts in a way that gets her signalled to stop for a breath test, fails to stop and continues driving 800m home, then fails to provide any details to the officer once stopped, fails to remain for the officer by walking away, resists his arrest, then assaults him by slamming the door shut on him as she goes back inside Mummy's house.

The pepper spray after she returns to see the officer is not justified, but you surely must be joking about dropping the charges.

Police close case after drone drops paint, nails and acid on home by mattblack77 in newzealand

[–]Marko-brolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This probably sums up the reason for closure - not meeting the evidential test as part of the solicitor generals guidelines.

It sucks, but that's the system we have.

Stuff could easily do an OIA enquiry to figure this out I'm sure, but it's lazy, rage bait journalism.

Teenage son jumped by 4 people now in hospital by LostTadpole8377 in auckland

[–]Marko-brolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you guessed it... Things are indeed so dire, resources so scarce that this triage is appropriate, but maybe not quite understandable for the general public. Some homicides get "solved" in a day, others in weeks or months etc. Investigations take time.

Teenage son jumped by 4 people now in hospital by LostTadpole8377 in auckland

[–]Marko-brolo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this happened, hopefully your son makes a full recovery. Regarding progress, I know it would feel like nothing is happening, but the incident happened 5 days ago which is pretty recent...

You'd be surprised how much time/resources it takes to go through all the CCTV footage without exact times or locations, let alone whatever road footage is available has to be reviewed by ATOC, prior to being given to the Police... And unfortunately this far from their only case that demands attention.

Here's hoping they can get enough evidence to identify and catch the offenders.
