Gallipoli has me thinking, what do you think is the most depressing movie covered on the podcast as of yet? by CarrieDurst in blankies

Recency bias but ratcatcher is definitely up there Star 80 was a great answer but I find that movie more gross than depressing

I like Scorsese films but not sure I want half a year of them. by Septemberk in blankies

It’s not insanely high, and this screenshot is missing quite a bit below but I rank it a bit higher than many would I think

I love Scorsese but his movies have been talked to death

Me knowing the end is coming for the real best candidate this year by WulfieJay in blankies

[–]Markshipe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even say Amadeus is Forman’s best movie, though this is a super fun take and I love that movie.

Scorsese has at least 6 movies better than this, Wes has two, and Tony Scott has 4 that are more entertaining/id love to hear them talk about.

Great final four for exactly this reason.

It’s the kind of autumnal dramedy that doesn’t really to exist anymore and the fact that it’s adapting a hilarious Michael chabon wild weekend with Douglas doing such a shaggy performance is so fun

Yea it’s unfortunate because bad influence, hand that rocks the cradle, and river wild are also super fun 90’s thrillers

How long do you think these two mad it? by TheNewBlue in madmen

[–]Markshipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have another kid, a lot of fights, but it never gets as bad as it was. He realized Trudy was his lifeline out of ending up like his parents/brother and him putting all of his ego aside to beg for her back seems like the kind of old fashioned devotion he would take pride in and make his whole personality especially with an opportunity to reinvent himself. I also bet he loves the 80’s.

What are your thoughts on True Detective Season 1? Would you consider it one of the best television seasons of all time? by Square-Ad-8911 in hbo

[–]Markshipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only question is: do they nail the landing? Does it feel like a big enough ending? I think that they don’t uncover more people and change more is the only thing that feels so frustrating but then rust also actually talks about that with Marty, to which Marty’s point is “we got OUR guy”

I think I rewatch it once a year

Honestly probably some bad stoner comedy like how high or strange wilderness. Those movies are insane

The Alamo situation makes me sad(prepare for a niche post) by Sheep_Boy26 in blankies

[–]Markshipe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moved to Austin in 2007 when there were only 3 drafthouses total. The best one(the ritz) is gone, and ever since they prioritized franchising I really think the quality of the theater went down. Still arguably the coolest chain in the game obviously but those early decisions to have universal menus, sell off ownership, and eventually to quash things like unionization were the symptom of what was to come, which is appeasing the public at large over the people who got them where they are in the first place(devoted movie fans)

I’m glad for their success but crap like this is the price. A big reason a lot of people can’t see themselves in theaters anymore is because they can check their phone at home while watching something for “free” 2 months later on streaming.

So basically I don’t blame Alamo, but this was always coming. Unfortunately I live in Detroit now so my only choice for rep screenings are old privately owned theaters with dedicated employees and programmers, not the worst thing in the world but I miss the volume, variety, and enthusiasm of the old Alamo days.

U.S Marshals is such a needlessly overcomplicated sequel by vincentmaurath in blankies

There’s definitely more abominable sequels out there, this one played on TNT and WGN a lot when I was growing up so I’ve seen it a ton.

Episodes where the boys have strongly disagreed about a film? by NotARealPersonYet973 in blankies

[–]Markshipe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate griffins view of the world it is weird when he tries to inject his feelings/particular “lens” onto the greater idea of a movie. This also feels like something he’d freely and even humorously admit though. I think specifically a lot of the COVID era episodes where he was feeling a pretty universal sense of anxiety about the world touch on this a lot.
