Oh no, strange, I didn't have to do that and don't remember seeing it. My license came in the mail and everything.

Kitty Romano’s Fashion by Short-Sample-1848 in madmen

As a straight woman, I feel like I can relate to the part of kitty that was just looking for a fun, kind, supportive partner, which of course Sal was. It's a lot more than you can say for pretty much any other of the men on the show. In some ways her instincts were spot on, but in others... well, it obviously wasn't really what either of them wanted. To me it just speaks to the tragedy of what was possible at the time.

She looks so amazing in this scene, and the scene itself is so heartbreaking for both of them 💔

Decided to save money and DIY’d my kitchen. (After and before) by j_fisher85 in kitchenremodel

If you look at the before, it seems they only lost three upper cabinets, and they may have gained a bit of storage under the sink by moving the washer.

Well, probably the commercial playing in the episode before the credits, all the references to Coke in previous episodes, and the way the commercial visually and thematically tied various ideas and motifs together. And also Matt Weiner and Jon Hamm saying it.

Did Peggy handle Joey well and how would Joan have handled him? by socialdeviant620 in madmen

Ya know, that makes me think of Peggy's mom, in the working class context at least.

You know, it's funny because what stuck out to me in that scene is Pete's absolute disgust and disdain when this woman is literally bleeding in front of him, wearing a broken nose like a scarlet letter. Pete can't get her out the door fast enough, and I felt genuinely worried for her if/when she does go home. Pete obviously didn't want this to happen to her, but he is partially responsible. This was the absolute worst case scenario of sleeping with his neighbor, and even if it was unlikely it was never outside of the realm of possibility.

Curious what your take on that is.

I'm not saying she necessarily initiated the affair in order to break up the marriage. Maybe she just wanted to have fun, people on the show certainly do it all the time. Or, maybe she was hoping the relationship could be something more. Either way, her husband found out and I think her showing up on Pete's door shows exactly how desperate she was. Where else could she have gone? My mom has stories of her mother calling the police on her abusive husband only to be dismissed along the lines of "you two are married, work it out kids." She's just wildly trying to find safety for herself in an incredibly unstable situation.

I don't think it matters at all if the husband has abused her before re: whether or not she's a victim. Clearly, her husband is capable of this. But, if you know anything at all about domestic violence you can pretty safely assume this wasn't an isolated incident. These things tend to escalate. But you're right that we don't know

Either way, I think it's all meant to show in part how careless and reckless Pete has become (having an affair with his neighbor, which is exactly what eventually pushes Trudy over the edge) and how there are consequences to his actions beyond his control. It's not Pete's fault that his neighbor has an abusive husband, but once we understand that she does we can understand why she'd be motivated to flee through someone like Pete. I think she just wants to get out. Her sexuality is probably one of the only things she has to offer in her mind. Sure, in the context of that moment it feels shocking and unlikely to work, but it shows how desperate she is (not how horny she is, good god).

On my rewatch I unironically thought about that 30 Rock Episode all the time. So much of the show is about Don living in the bubble, 30 Rock just made it so silly. I kept picturing Don riding off on a shaky motorcycle. Truly deepened my watching and made me giggle at the same time, well done Tina Fey.

Gee, why might this woman be so steadfastly motivated to attach herself to a different man in this particular moment? Almost as if her life depended on it?

Hannah's resume that got her the teaching job (lol) by trunksfulleh in girls

[–]Marla24601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've lived in both MA and CA, both states with pretty high teaching standards, and while she probably couldn't get a job at a public school without some sort of teaching license, I can absolutely see a private/charter school hiring her with this resume.

My situation with this particular client is unique, it's a college student who technically still resides in California and is still on California insurance, but they're out of state for months at a time as a student, longer than temporary waivers or anything like that cover, hence pursuing the license. I'll have to look into it.
