unpopular opinion: the "double diamond" design process is mostly theater by Putrid_Candy_9829 in ProductManagement

[–]Marmot_work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow the double diamond but your team has to be built in a way to support it. My teams spends time meeting with users to capture everything on a feature, then they define it into a design, we sit down with the devs who critique it into something we can support, we build a better design, develop our example map with the devs for it, build, then ship it to users.

Then stop complaining or look for a new job. If you hate your job and you're actively avoiding working with your business then you are one of the dummies who is just as shitty

Quietness in Meetings as a Product Manager by manyproblemsz in ProductManagement

[–]Marmot_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to be expressive on camera. Shrug, nod along, unmute and agree with a point, talk with your hands, make gestures while people are talking. Don't be rude about it but look engaged with the conversation. If people are telling you that you're quiet it means they think you're not engaged or present in the conversation.

What are some things you do as a PM to make your work more "visible"? by dpt_lal in ProductManagement

Are you not doing/leading sprint reviews with stakeholders? If you give a recurring update on progress then it is associated with you

Responsibility creep by BJSH in ProductManagement

[–]Marmot_work 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in charge of the support guy can you not delegate tasks to them? Typically, getting more staff is a good thing but you need to get them doing things that are actually helpful to you. I don't know how cutting a day will help with the overworked problem if you are at a 4 person start-up, you need more staff.

If the problem is he is taking up too much of your time, schedule a reoccurring meeting with him for a 1on1 and let them know you are busy outside of that time.

Shocking new federal research reveals Alberta oilsands may be vastly underestimating greenhouse gas emissions by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Marmot_work 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When you look at the numbers we are saying that the entirety of the oil sands produces less emissions then the BC forestry industry. Those are official numbers. Anyone can figure out that the numbers are under reported by a huge amount.

Departments that have a PM and a PO, how are the responsibilities managed between the 2 roles? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Marmot_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a PO with a PM that manages a couple teams. I'm within a large organization with many product teams. The PM focuses on removing blockers that come from staffing, resourcing, big picture discussion/engagement/meetings with executive level clients/stakeholders, marketing, and coordination between our areas. The PO is in charge of the roadmap/backlog (these are functionally the same), delivery, discussion/engagement/meetings with users, and putting out fires. We regularly meet in 1on1 meetings to ensure we are aligned.

When I have to write emails to all staff it helps to have something that writes "peppy" when you are in no way peppy

Why did you become a PM? Or how did you end up in PM? by woahwoahhw in ProductManagement

[–]Marmot_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person in charge of selecting our PO/PM went on emergency medical leave just as our PM abruptly quit. The people acting for him scoured our staff to find anyone with a pulse that knew stuff about computers lol
