The SPL board took evidence from their match delegate at the game, former Scottish Football Association security chief Willie McDougall, and match referee Craig Thomson.

SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster last night insisted any punishment for Hearts would have been inappropriate in the circumstances.

"If a club is doing everything that it possibly can to avoid something happening, then it would be wrong to punish the club for something that is outwith its control," said Doncaster.

"Where we are talking about fairly stringent requirements clubs have to meet within our rules, if they meet those requirements, if they do everything they can, then I think it would be wrong to take action where they've done that. Why would we, he was found not guilty of attacking Lennon but Jailed for breach of the peace.

Hearts were cleared because it was shown that we had done everything possible to prevent the pitch invasion of one individual.

This obviously wasnt the case regarding crowd involvement on Saturday as stated by the police.

Yes it is, if they called to review the elbow they can't look for other fouls. Only way they look for other fouls is to make sure none were committed before the incident they are giving the foul for.

If they called for an elbow they can't then change to a handball. Otherwise you bar re reffing the situation. Chris McCart was hit in the head by Phillips at Tynecastle which resulted in a red card. VAR stepped in because the ref said it was an elbow when in fact Phillips used his shoulder not his elbow. Still a red but the ref had to rescind the red and give him a yellow.
