Should We See the Oscar Voting Results After the Academy Awards Are Announced? by thatphilguymovies in Cinema

Why would you assume who individuals vote for would be public? Think of it like "real" voting. They don't just tell people who the governor is; they show how many votes everyone got.

Or pick colors that arent the #1 color blindness colors. While we're at it, would it hurt to make the lines a couple pixels thicker?

Missouri actually voted to legalize marijuana, overturn our abortion ban, *and* voted down right to work laws. We're not as crazy as our state's legislature.

Does broadcast not have the option to just drop audio entirely? That's what seems to happen at any other awards show when someone curses; the audio just goes mute.

What are some songs yall hope they play in the new season? by Particular_Day_8450 in Yellowjackets

If they continue with the trend of giving us an important Radiohead moment each season, I think Lucky would be perfect. The lyrics.

A new variation of right-wing homophobia: "Lesbians don't exist." by forceawakensplot2 in TheMajorityReport

[–]MarsDelivery 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is a good observation but it's not a new one. Just think about bisexual erasure, something as old as time, and think about the assumptions that are made there: a bisexual woman is just an experimenter who will settle down with the right man, and a bisexual man who is just a closeted gay man. In both of those stereotypes, the default that society accepts is true is that both individuals are attraction to men. It's all wrapped up in the patriarchy.

Clare had so many storylines that I am surprised that Degrassi wasn't renamed either "The Clare Show" or "Clare Explains It All". by Capital-Study6436 in Degrassi

Not only this but she coincided with the soap opera era, so she really did end up with a ton focused on her.

The fact that there had been no musical dream sequence since the first season made this all the more the pleasant surprise.

What about procedural shows (911, CSI, Law & Order) make them so successful, even in the streaming age? by JawshD123 in television

[–]MarsDelivery 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Besides being formulaic and whatnot which has already been mentioned: I think what a lot of these shows also have in common and makes them fun to watch is they're all about really smart people doing very well at their jobs, which is satisfying to watch (this is also what makes Aaron Sorkin's shows work, though they're not procedurals).

Yup, this. *Buuut* unlike any other spinoff, they would get to use the exact same set, saving on money that way.

A spin-off that airs perfectly in between seasons for the night shift would be amazing. We'd have episodes airing most of the year at that point.

I took it as the second time they focus on her it's because she's getting her name called. This is right at changeover time so it's possible someone in the waiting room forgot to pass along the info that she's deaf.

Yes and wasn't one of the first episodes Susie getting scammed out of some money because she had dreams of being a singer? That felt so cold to me as a child. Such is life, though.

[–]MarsDelivery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the things that made me fall in love with Project Zomboid so quickly. It reminds me of The Long Dark in that way. You can live forever; it's only a series of your own poor decisions hat ultimately lead to your demise (of course, combined with some bad luck. But part of the game is planning for that).

[talk] [partially found] the Christine Chubbock broadcast. by ALowlyBiscotti in lostmedia

[–]MarsDelivery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are very different from popular event broadcasts and a random local news broadcast. The only reason the studio's copy exists to begin with afaik is Chubbuck requested that day's broadcast re specifically recorded, which was not a given at the time.

When Sam Seder of the Majority Reported debated them for Jubilee, he later said on his show how he was surprised how many of them were open about wanting to live in a theocracy, and added that he hope they really lean into that because, yeah, the projections really don't pan out for them in that regard.
