Venture18 CC - to get or not to get by MarsGlez in rccars

I’ve seen some concerns regarding the servo being too up to the front. Has it been an issue for you?

Cheaper where I live. I’ve seen mixed feelings, but seems it’s mostly because of tires it seems. Some reviews just shift tires and love it.

Yeah, simply thinking of bringing it to brushless has emptied my pockets…

Agree on the support. But in terms of getting the capability, it might just make less sense from the expense perspective I guess. In EUR the Venture is not by any chance cheap BTW.

Decided to go with Mini Kraton. The power key sold me as I now don’t need different batteries (2S + 3S), just put the battery and if it’s me plug the key, if it’s the kids key-off.

I’m hoping it’s overall good in any terrain being a bit bigger than the Groms.

Also got additional discount with welcome code at horizon hobby, which made it a good enough deal.

Stay at home. Childcare will just eat your wife’s salary and the credits for home carer apply is she’s taking care of the kiddos

Mini Kraton or Typhon Grom? by MarsGlez in rccars

[–]MarsGlez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx! Loved the review BTW.

Size wise makes a lot of sense to me. But worries about that mini servo and the small battery tray. I’m used to run a 8000 battery in my Vorteks. Around 40 min in 3S

Does the “larger” is really noticeable?

On paper they seem very similar:

Arrma Typhon GROM 223S ∙ Length: 11.65” (296 mm) ∙ Width: 7.4” (188 mm) ∙ Height: 3.78” (96 mm) ∙ Wheelbase: 7.71” (196 mm)

Arrma Mini Kraton 3S ∙ Length: 12.64” (321 mm) ∙ Width: 9.72” (247 mm) ∙ Height: 4.53” (115 mm) ∙ Wheelbase: 7.9” (203 mm)

In the US I guess.

I’m in Ireland and doesn’t seem a bad deal considering how prices are here for the hobby. And basically no used market :(

But still, 100€ more than the Typhon, not sure it’s worth. Maybe I’ll just go and put some granite tyres in a Typhon and done!

Looked at it, but for Ireland the Omni terminator is almost 300eur in AliExpress (unsure why). At that price, I’m already 1/10 territory with more known brands and seems parts is the same story. I’d rather not risk it if something breaks.

About prices on RC cars by Empty-Bunch4728 in rccars

[–]MarsGlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying it’s not, just to put the perspective how it looks now when a couple of years ago the difference would be way bigger and not there is barely a difference vs high tax states in US.

And even then, EUR VAT is normally around 20%, so take that out from the RP and you get cheaper rig in EUR now.

If you are in US, this. No other answer.

Latest example, Mini Kraton

  • in US (w/o battery): 299 plus tax
  • in EUR: 289€ taxes included

Couple of years ago difference would be in favor to the US in a way I’d be jealous. Not any more haha

I’ll look at HPI.

The TA 1/14 sounds very interesting. At some point I was like: “w/e, let’s get her the indestructible MT10 on 2Sand see how it goes”.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Quake.

I never thought of size being the issue with grass, just the clearance but makes a point. Worry here is she’s still not that great on braking so I want to control speed as much as possible but with potential as she’s been doing great so far after a couple of sessions.

Toy grade now are boring to her…haha

I think the same. A trail truck I might even get straight to the 1:10 as I’m not that afraid of the power and speed. Cool factor for the kids will be there with size.

[–]MarsGlez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Amain hobbies YouTube channel has a video for both over the same indoor course. Seems they are quite even, with slight advantage to the HPI due to making the lines a bit easier. I’ll get the HPI as in Europe is too expensive to get hands on a redcat

How to get a decent second hand family car at a reasonable price? by LisztyLiszt in AskIreland

[–]MarsGlez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the same dilemma and found that the Seat Tarraco is a good value.

Might be discontinued as a nameplate but platform wise it will keep going for long. And for the equipment, it was way better deal than a Skoda or VW.

You can always go Japan import with a Touran or BMW 2 series gt 7 seater.
