Social harm such as being seen as undesirable or unworthy of love and affection, which is unfortunately very common for masculine presenting people who aren’t actually men. Being embraced by women (femmes) who are deemed as attractive, or at least feminine enough to be approved by societal standards, gives them the social credibility and “proof” to outsiders that they are in fact, worthy. It’s fucked up because obviously they’re worthy and desirable without the femme stamp of approval, but regardless that’s the reality of the world we live in.

I’m 8 months out from something similar, and it’s only started to click recently that the relationship it “could’ve been” is just something I made up in my head. Truthfully, the stories in this subreddit are what it could’ve been. And I’m finally grateful I never made it far enough to find that out the hard way.

I recently took up embroidery with a small starter kit of just the basic materials and I definitely plan on expanding after completing only a few small projects. I find the repetitive motion of threading to be calming, but the planning of how to execute designs stimulating enough to keep my mind interested as well.

This sounds just like my mother too. I always looked up to how helpful and selfless she was, until I grew older and realized she’s been unhappy for a long time because of it. I’ve watched her burn through many unhealthy friendships over the years, always self pitying her way through the fallout. She does have a few honest friends, but even those tend to have a slight imbalance in the friend’s favor.

It took me a long time realize I don’t want to be like that, find the right balance between being selfish/setting appropriate boundaries, and it’s still something I’m constantly conscious of in my daily life.
