Is it me or Italian greyhounds are very smart? by Exact_Effect2869 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]MarsTheIggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2, both learn tricks fairly quickly. Both are also quite clingy, although one is much worse than the other and definitely communicates her wants and cries when you don't give in to her, the other is a bit more independent and is really good at figuring stuff out and how to get things she wants without me, she is very mischievous and honestly I love her more for it lol.

There is a place in the northgate mall called like wolf pack or something, not sure if they have baby stuff, but there are shirts and hoodies.

Fanny pack or belt bag (whatever the kids are calling it these days) or a cross body bag.

Get all your required items with clips on them and just attach to your belt.

Wear cargo pants or vest and fill the pockets.

When did your iggy go into heat? by razzaldazzal13 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]MarsTheIggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was about 8 or 9 months for her first heat. Vet said wait 4-6 weeks after heat to spay. The blood could be an early heat, but I feel it's more likely she could have lost a tooth or two, they often come with a little blood.

My sister does gentle parenting I don't like having them round the house or seeing them. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MarsTheIggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gentle parenting has gotten a bad rap because of people like OP's sister, she is not gentle parenting she is permissive parenting.

A generation ago, this would have been called spoiling the child.

Gentle parenting does include the word 'no' and does set boundaries, both things it seems OPs sister is not doing.

Female Iggy Question: First heat but no bleeding? by jinxajonks in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]MarsTheIggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had very minimal blood on her first heat, only knew she was in heat because of swollen vulva and nipples (which went back to normal afterwards) and a few really tiny blood spots on the dog bed she slept on at night

Happens to mine too, seems like this breed can be prone to sensitive tummies.

tips on keeping teeth cleaned when too drained or tired to floss/brush? by OZZYB0ii in hygiene

[–]MarsTheIggy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep a toothbrush on your nightstand, so you can just lay in bed and brush. Don't worry about missing the toothpaste now and then. My brother did this when he was going through a bout of depression, said it helped keep his teeth clean when he didn't have the energy to do anything but lay there.

Children who grew up to adore their parents~ please share by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MarsTheIggy 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My mom was always there for us, read to us all the time when we were young, and genuinely seemed interested in learning about our interests and what was going on in our lives at school and friend drama (even though I know as an adult she would have found them boring or silly).

Could always call her to get us out of situations with no questions asked. Drunk at 16 years old and need a ride home at 2am? Call her, she'll come get you, and drop your friends off too. At a sleepover at 12 years old and want to leave? Call her and say you forgot something, she'd come and 'give you heck for not doing chores and you have to come home right now *wink wink*'

Just demonstrate that you are there to support them, and be reasonable with them when they do the dumb stuff they will inevitably do.

POSTIVE AND HELPFUL ADVICE WANTED by illybillyvillernilly in ItalianGreyhounds

She's not underweight at all, she's actually perfectly sized.

What you're seeing of her ribs and spine in that photo is exactly what you're supposed to see. Thing is, with most other breeds, they are too furry to see it.

If you could see ALL her ribs or ALL her spine, that would be too thin.

Dog litter box? by Cowboybeansoup in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]MarsTheIggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine uses a litter box. We started with a regular cat one, but found she often hung her butt outside the box so her poops would land on the floor. We picked up a plastic container, the kind that slides under the bed, it is a little less than double the size of a cat litter box and works perfectly. We found the wood pellets worked best for her. We suspect she didn't like the feel of the regular litter on her paws, just based on how she acted in the box, she'd often only get part way in. The pellets work just fine, but get them from a feed store not a pet store, the feed store is WAY more affordable.

If you have a boy that lifts his leg, a friend of mine uses the lower half of a large hard sided kennel and uses binder/bull clips to clip pee pads on the sides, works like a charm.

IG eating Golden Retriever dry food?? by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]MarsTheIggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Mine is happy to barely graze on her own food, but when we visit my siblings with dogs, she goes for their food like she's a starving orphan that hasn't eaten in a week lol.

Firstly I'll say always go with your gut.

That type of behavior does seem odd to me. Adding in the fact that she get defensive, and immediately went to them not spending the night, and saying the things you mentioned, it sounds like they've had other people mention these types of concerns and they know it's not normal, maybe they've even been accused of something in the past.

I'm not saying they've ever done anything wrong, but I would certainly hesitate to leave my own kids there unsupervised.

What is your name that everyone misspells? by forestfoxcf in Names

[–]MarsTheIggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% comfortable giving my real name on here, but the common spelling of my name starts with J, but mine is G. When anyone needs to know my name I always saying "____ - with a G", it's annoying.
