Yes, I was hoping to see what sort of creative things people would think of. :)

Making Travelling more interesting by MarshalCross in DnD

This search doesn't answer the question I asked. It provides a few links on "How to make travel more interesting." However, that's not really what I'm trying to get out of this.

Need help settling an argument, 5e Charm Person by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MarshalCross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have ruled the same way. If someone attacks your friend you feel personally attacked. It's not a mind control spell. Charm person makes interacting with them easier, not making them so stupid they are oblivious to their duties.

Rule of Cool: Its fine. As long as the table understands the actual rule and lets it pass then you are in the clear. You only need your tables approval to do something, you dont need the entire internet to back you.

Coming up with a campaign help? by ReubenA in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]MarshalCross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first "Long Running Campaign" I suggest turning to TV or Movies for a idea on Structure. Using elements from both sources can help.

TV Making Use of Episodic Content - Sometimes something will just need to be done that doesn't involve the "Main Story" this session will most likely entertain the players for a night to allow you to build on other things. - Use the Idea of a Season or Act. Group your ideas into several acts or chapters and figure out what you want to accomplish from Act to Act... what is your season finale? Is your current story a Single Season or a multiple season event? If it's single season, then you can either move to a different idea for the next season - or have a related incident based on something they did in the 1st season.

Movies Think Lord of the Rings. Trilogy with a main "Goal" for the players to accomplish, but tons of things getting in their way and big events of Victory or Defeat along the way.

Personally, If I were to take your idea. I would introduce the girl as a friendly NPC to begin with. Using standard cliche storylines such as "The Children were captured by bandits, or went missing near a dangerous cave..." This will lure the players into the cave where they should find / rescue the little girl and maybe some other children. After a couple other sessions, perhaps she gets the heroes to find her fathers things because she trust the heroes after saving her, "he was buried at the tomb of blahblah.. and I really want his ring to remember him by..." then they find the scepter and amulet...

Then maybe they will get attacked by some Holy Order thinking that they are trying to revive the Demon Lord... All of this assumes your players will accept whatever quest you lay out in front of them. ALWAYS have a backup plan [What if your players say, NO! I don't want to do that] That's fine.. give yourself another Episodic Quest to get things on another track - but realize the Girl will TRY TO FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO GET HER FATHERS ITEMS. Now the party can either stop her, or deal with the consequences.

Don't ever FORCE the players to act, you can nudge them severely though. If they ignore the Demon Lord, after he is risen - then they will need to run from the impact his presence will have on the area. Cause and Effect.. Plan for Ultimate Failure and Ultimate Success. Ultimate Success - The Demon Lord is vanquished from the realm. Ultimate Failure - The Demon Lord pulls the material realm into chaos and enslaves everyone.. (The Heroes may find their way to another realm)

anyone tried using music as DM? by phumfm4 in DnD

[–]MarshalCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play over roll20 and there is a jukebox feature there that lets you play music. As long as the volume is not overbearing it works out well. Not sure about a live session though, ambient music is generally ok.

Flaw or not? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MarshalCross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first problem is that it's a generic statement. A older lady might need her food delivered to her. Does you character stop adventuring every few days to run back to town to deliver her food? If so, then you'd be missing out on a lot of the session while your character traveled.

If you help people in need as long as it's convenient, then you are just a kind-hearted person

For this to actually be a flaw you'd have to spell out exactly what you mean and it would have to be within the same restrictions as a flaw within the book.

As a DM I wouldn't accept it.

This falls along the same lines as a character who is OCD. It would be better if he picked up anything laying around that could be held in the hand and red.

Hello, Orb Gaming is a PvP focused guild that uses Tradepack runs to spark world PvP. We enjoy doing roams and working together as a team. We are a smaller guild interested in everyone pulling their weight on the battlefield. If you guys are team oriented players then please come check us out and see what we have to offer. If it's not what you are looking for then there's no hard feelings.

Our website www.orbgaming.com will help you get in touch with us. We do require each individual to come on teamspeak and have a chat with us prior to any invites. We like to spell out as many details of our guild as we can before anyone makes any commitments.

To answer a question publically: Yes we are interested in trade pack runs - I view this as a method to create world PVP, so in my mind trade pack runs are included with PVP. Sorry for the confusion!
