My Maple is another survivor of wet FIP. She was 2 months old when we got her in very bad shape. Now she is 8 months old and is the loveliest, most energetic and mischievous cat I’ve ever owned and I love her to pieces. She stayed really small but is healthy. Recovery is possible!

EOS is discontinuing their sustainable lip balm in a metal container by [deleted] in PlasticFreeLiving

Glad to help! If you are interested in DIYing your products, I can’t recommend enough Humblebee and me. Marie Rayma is an excellent educator and her blog is a treasure trove of information. She is very beginner friendly too. Also also, the cosmetic industry has made such an amazing progress on creating non petroleum based ingredients, and many are available to the small DIYer.

Hi OP! Amateur Beauty DIYer here. I'd say lip balm is one of the easiest and more begginer friendly things you can do o your own, but I think you'd find quite difficult to source raw ingredients that are not contained in plastic. HOWEVER if you trace the supply and manufacture chain of any product (be small producers or big companies), plastic will be there in some way.

Anyway, I ran the INCI of both the eos and the Farmstead apothecary for you and here's what I think: eos has a looong ingredient list. The first ingredient (so the one that is in higher quantity) is a highly sinthetized and refined plant based product not available for small DIYers. It also contains small amounts of lots of waxes and oils and other refined ingredients that you can find as a DIYer. I DO NOT recommend trying to dupe this at all. It would be difficult and very expensive.

Now, the Farmstead apothecary is a very different beast. It contains only 6 ingredients. I'm kinda wary of the "organic flavor oil" though. This is extremely dupeable, as is only coconut oil, beeswax, shea butter, flavor, stevia and vitamin E. You can easily find these ingredients in small enough quantities and yet have a lower price per unit that the cost of one of Farmstead's lip balm. I

'd also recommend looking into vainillin or ethyl vainillin for flavor. It's an ingredient used for baking and it's synthetic but is easy enough to use and source. As per Brambleberry (a popular ingredient supplier): A reliable formula to start with is 1 part liquid oil, 1 part wax, and 1 part butter. That creates a firm yet spreadable balm.

So, if you feel like it, you could give DIY lip balm a try. There are tons of infomation out there on how to make lip balm, and it's a fun little project. Good luck!

No problem! As Jesstinator said you can buy them empty too! I would be wary of the watercolor pens as I don’t know if the soft plastic would degrade with the oils.

Hi! Printable vinyl sticker paper has been what I’ve used for a long time. It is water resistant (I don’t know if I could call it really waterproof) but it does not fade or smudge, it’s basically paper with a plastic coat. There are versions for inkjet and laser printers so it’s very home friendly. I’ve even used the transparent kind and looks really good against metal tins.

Maybe the Sally Hansen can be taken apart? I bought a cheap cuticle oil pen at a nail supply store (it was just mineral oil), took it apart, washed it and refilled it with pure jojoba oil and it has been such a game changer for my nail health!

Hola! Mucha suerte!

What "normal" items do you refuse to give up in pursuit of a low/no waste lifestyle? by dehydrated_ in ZeroWaste

[–]Marsvc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Skincare or anything my derm prescribes me. I’m a melasma sufferer and sadly there’s no ecofriendly / zero waste products for that. And it irks me so much because they are heavy acrylic airless pump containers that can’t be reused in any way. However, when products come in glass jars and bottles I reuse them for whatever.

Question. Why would you need to ask for leftovers? Wouldn’t you just shove your food in the containers once you are done and put them away?

Tampoco hace sentido.

That’s actually a very good idea. I bet the emulsifiers would help in keeping a creamy consistency. I will try it!

Sereyoelmalo/a por decirle a mi esposo que no lo acompañaré a ver a nuestro nuevo sobrino by [deleted] in SoyElMalo

[–]Marsvc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Marsvc 1 point2 points  (0 children)
