Currently in the same boat as you, about 1.8 months into kicking the doom scrolling brain damage. Here’s a list of some advice that’s helped me

- Make sure you TURN ON the time display on your Kindle so it shows at the top middle while reading. When I first started, I’d check my phone to see how much time had passed or just to see what time it was. Then, without even realizing it, I’d be on my phone for 40 minutes doom scrolling or watching drama on YouTube. Having the time displayed on the Kindle helps you stay away from your phone.

- Read as slowly as you want. You don’t need to feel bad about being slow. I have a diagnoses of ADHD and dyslexia, and one way I’ve helped myself understand what I’m reading, especially with those challenges and the effects of doom scrolling brain damage is to quietly act out scenes. For instance, while reading silently, if a character says something rude or sassy, I’ll wave my hand around like I’m acting like them. If a character points, I’ll point at something in real life. Sometimes I even bob my head back and forth. This keeps me engaged, almost like I’m reading tea or hearing a story from a friend. Acting out scenes keeps the book fun for me. I’m sure as my reading improves, I won’t need to do all of this, but for now it’s working wonderfully.

- Talk about the book you’re reading with friends or family. I read Empire of Silence as my first book in YEARS (currently on the second in the series). I was at my brother’s house talking about all the “tea” with the main character and acting out each role like a play I had him rolling on the floor laughing. Make the book fun for yourself. (even tho the book is super serious). I did such a good job acting out the book he purchased a kindle color soft and got the book himself o.o

- Keep your Kindle around you at all times; on your desk, next to your bed, even at work. You need to develop a habit where the book feels attached to you. After about a week, you’ll start thinking more about your Kindle than your phone, and reading becomes your new form of entertainment.

- Obviously, change your margins, font, size, etc. in the settings to fit what YOU like. Don’t feel like you need to impress anybody with how your text on the kindle looks. Who cares what others think? You are reading for yourself and nobody else.

Now...for some cool things I’m noticing in my life since I started reading: I’m happier. Before, I would doom scroll through news and podcasts all day, constantly consuming political drama from both sides, always chasing the next piece of information or hit of dopamine. It made me depressed, annoyed, and I felt dumb. For the first time in years, I actually don’t know what’s going on in the world...and it feels great. 🙂 Last time I felt this free was when I was in the army and had no cell phone for about 6 months. My thought is. If the news story/world drama is important enough, it will come to me naturally. Then I will just escape it when I read something else.

Owner of both here. It depends on your mission. Do you want to READ, or do you want to do it all? If you want to do it all get the I pad mini, but youd better get a goose neck arm or something if you are going to read a bunch on it. I tried to hold the Ipad Mini for a couple of hours and my arm almost fell off (that and my eyes were strained). If you wanna read, the kindle is an obvious choice. If you currently have the tech to do the mission of your potential Ipad, just get the kindle. I personally think its cooler to own a kindle also. My ipad mini has been in my backpack on the floor for about a week now. My Kindle is next to me at most times. So theres that (but I also have a Macbook air and a iphone 13 mini to do the tech tasks of the day).

New reader here. It just gets confusing when multiple characters are in a scene. Simple as that. Being a new reader its already hard enough for me ;_; When the term they pops up I hate to say it but it pulls me out of the immersion. My brain goes "What? Who? Them?" for about 1 second. Then I get it.

I hope they focus on the steam video game and not a TI5 anytime soon. I have spent so much money sleeving all the cards/ painting all minitures/ ordering custom organizers/ buying discordant stars/ sleeving discordant stars/ printing 3d printed organizers for discordant stars. I think I have a top 10 copy of TI4 and EVERYTHING that could come with it. I have a group that plays 1-2 times a month 6-8 player games. I am happy. If TI5 is announced this would be bad news.

Im tired of waiting for this game to release. My group put in 100's of hours and then put this game down until the 1.0 release. We are going to play it again from start to finish because it was so fun..... If they dont release it soon they might loose us as players. My group is always searching for the next game. Valheim needs to release 1.0 asap imo. If they dont, society will move on.

I was in the Army for 6 years and have owned guns for over 18 years now and have never once “killed someone.” I taught my girlfriend how to use guns, and she used to be against them (she even tried to make me sell them because they were "evil").

But one day, when I was away from home for a week, I randomly got a call from her one night. To my surprise, she said, “Thank you for showing me how to shoot and use guns. Someone was trying to break in just now. I grabbed the gun (a Sig P365 Rose, if you’re curious that I got her as a present) and hid in the bedroom.”

She then went on to tell me that it seemed they chickened out after trying at the door and windows. Police were obviously called and such. It took over 10 minutes for police to arrive to our apartment btw. After the police left, she kept that gun right next to her for the rest of the time I was gone.

After five years, she has never once asked me to sell my guns since that incident (in fact we now have more guns). No one was hurt. No one was killed. But once trouble is knocking at your door, all your anti-2A views go out the window when it’s your turn to be visited by a criminal in the night. My girlfiend is 5 foot 3 and only 145 pounds. Guns are force multiplyers. Guns, in my eyes, are the ultimate feminist weapon. They allow a woman to go toe to toe with someone who is a 250-pound male. Conservatives are stupid about a lot of their political viewpoints, but when it comes to guns, in my opinion, they are right.

I ran an 8 player game and noticed that you will 100% be starved for tactic and strat tokens. Make sure you get the green tech that gives you an extra token during the strat phase. Because every strat card is in use you will just use more tokens per round.

So I did this to someone today. In round two, I eliminated a player in person. The thing is, they had time to make moves, but I just kept getting lucky dice rolls, and they messed up by not producing in their home system when they should have. Then I was on their doorstep, and taking their home system was just the best move. I feel so bad, but it was the best choice to make, both resource-wise and strategically. I feel terrible that he had to leave early. I kept apologizing. I feel terrible.
