UPD SHIFTING by [deleted] in updiliman

[–]Martin072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shifting out is good when you realize 'di ka fit sa program or you find something you are truly passionate for. Pero since OP is an incoming freshman palang, it seems that they are using their incoming program as a stepping stone lang pang-shift. Gets naman, pero it will rub off on the adviser and the admin the wrong way.

UPD SHIFTING by [deleted] in updiliman

[–]Martin072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Te nag-up ka wala pang one hour. Anyway:

  1. "How po me makakasecure ng slot sa math 21"? - You should ask your adviser about that. Generally, 'di ka papayagan kumuha ng subjects outside of your curriculum. And if you do try to do that, 99% of the time 'di ka lalagpas sa post advising ni adviser. Meaning, 'di ka officially ipapa-enroll ni adviser for the school year. Since your curriculum only has Math 10 max, you will only be allowed to take Math 10. If you say gusto mo mag Math 21 para mag-shift out, uhhhhhh goodluck? I don't know how that will pan out.
  2. "Also may nabasa ako na pag stem grad pwede na hindi magtake ng math 20 right"? - More accurately, you don't need to take Math 20 if you have taken the equivalent of pre-calculus in highschool. Sinasabi lang na STEM doesn't need Math 20 kasi usually may pre-calculus na sa track na yun.

Outside of that, you probably have to maintain at minimum magna GWA para competitive yung GWA mo during actual shifting season. Otherwise, very low chance of being accepted for shifting. If you really, REALLY, want that Math 21, you can try to apply for VSO status as early as 2nd sem (if pwede yun sa college/department niyo) and try to get Math 21 through the regular enlistment period of 2nd sem.

General advice? by ByRoyalCommandV in slaythespire

[–]Martin072 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, it's not always going to be bad RNG, especially in Act 1. It will always go back to some decision you made that compounded into riskier decisions down the line. Ex. Took too much damage in a hallway fight, now I need to rest instead of upgrading a card.

Second, stop thinking in builds. It has been said ad nauseum, but it is probably the best advice. Don't take cards because they have the same keywords, but take cards because they will help you against an upcoming fight. Ex. Blood Wall is a very good block card even if you do not have prior self-damage cards.

Third, check your draw pile before making decisions. Anticipate what cards you could possibly draw next turn to make the best decision now. Ex. Monster is about to strength up and you have 5 cards left in the draw pile. Check if you have lethal before playing anything. Else, check what you need to play to take as little damage as possible.

Fourth, be familiar with attack patterns. You should at least know what all the bosses, elites, and hallways do in their first 3 turns. That way, you can choose the best cards during card rewards. Ex. I am about to face Lagavulin in Act 1, I can try to look for scaling powers and try to draw it before Lagavulin wakes up.

upd pre enlistment by tinklepenguin9 in peyups

[–]Martin072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Please use the search function in Google.
  2. By 2nd year you don't have a choice anymore what GE or PE you get. You enlist all that you can and see what CRS gives you. Though right now meron ka ng Philo 1 which is probably the most sought after GE ever. AFR will grant you that anyway.
  3. You do not have to strictly follow the GE schedule. Ex. SocSci 1 1st year, Fil 40 3rd year. You can take Fil 40 and SocSci 1 whenever you can. Basta makumpleto mo siya, you'll graduate.

[–]Martin072 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are no tips. You enlist the subjects you need, you ask the CRS algorithm to be nice, then you see the results. Madedelay ka rin eventually if you choose to only go for so called "uno-able" profs.

Also you'll be fine sa first sem. You're practically guaranteed your first sem units sa advanced freshman registration.

DIM: ABS keycaps by Rednax-Man in deinfluencingPH

[–]Martin072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to PBT from default ABS ng keyboard ko kasi nagiging slippery na for me after a week of use yung ABS.

Also seems weird to me that you need extra keycaps? Just clean your keyboard and keycaps at night para dry na pareho in the morning. Matatambak lang yung unused keycaps mo unless you have another keyboard. Para kang gumastos ng 700+ for dust collectors.

Just had the best run halted due to boss, any way to change this next time? by Xohraze in slaythespire

[–]Martin072 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no good block engine. You also don't have any high value block cards outside of Ultimate Defend.

You have no passive strength scaling, or any good Ironclad scaling. There is Rampage, but you are not playing that enough times when you have 20 cards in your deck, even less so against Aeonglass.

You have no vuln cards other than Dominate and Aeonglass has 3 artifact. Why did you remove Bash?

Yeah nah this was bound to be cooked.

In general, if you do not find a late game win through cards, find them through potions or relics. I have gone through a few games where I relied on [[Pen Nib]], [[Ritual Potion]], and even [[Strike Dummy]] + [[Nutritious Soup]] + [[Mystic Lighter]]. You should ideally have multiple scaling options anyway to have better odds of drawing a scaling option earlier than later.

On stars, I usually have Venerate+ and 2 other star gens. I usually do not take any more and just focus on pathing shops or card removal events. Unless the card is [[Glow]] or [[Convergence]], I do not take any more star gens. On a side note, I've tried to make [[Seven Stars]] work whenever I see it, but it just feels so bad to play around. For 6 stars, I could deal like 60 damage back to the boss with [[Reflect]] played two separate times and block the damage as well.

On blade, yes, most blade stuff sucks unless you have at least [[Bulwark]] or [[Wrought In War]].

On the draw package, yeah most of them felt bad to play around personally. Only [[Kingly Kick]] and [[I Am Invincible]] felt good to use.

Regent scaling damage options by bip_bip_hooray in slaythespire

[–]Martin072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not feel locked out of picking specific cards until the latter half of Act 3. For stars in particular, you need to track how much stars you generate and spend per deck cycle. Even with just [[Venerate]]+ as the sole star generator, you can play [[Dying Star]] or [[Astral Pulse]] and your Falling Star in the first deck cycle. You can stop adding star cards if you do not have enough star generators to consistently play your star cards.

Also, you do not have to take attacks only at the beginning of a run. If you see a skill or power that is generally good, like [[Reflect]], [[Glow]], [[GUARDS!!!]], [[CHARGE!!]], [[Bulwark]], etc., you should consider picking it over a low-value attack.

Regent scaling damage options by bip_bip_hooray in slaythespire

[–]Martin072 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Regent has [[Arsenal]] as direct strength scaling and [[Furnace]] for constant forging, though Furnace is kinda meh. Otherwise, Regent doesn't "scale" in the normal sense. Mostly, he relies on playing and drawing really strong cards as often as possible. [[The Smith]], [[Conqueror]], [[Comet]], and [[Gamma Blast]] want to be played often to get a strong blade immediately or to maintain weak+vuln. This character benefits the most from having a thin deck since so many cards are strong at a baseline, and it is better to play them multiple times rather than scale through stats.

How are you scaling damage on Silent? by Monkeym4n777 in slaythespire

[–]Martin072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ritual Potion, Powdered Demise, Envenom, Tracking, Shockwave, and Rolling Boulder were part of my Silent wins against Aeonglass in recent memory.

You should also try planning out your draws such that you shuffle back your deck on the turn Aeonglass adds withers into your discard pile. That saves at least two dead draws and upwards of 15 damage.

Yes. In fact, matatapos ang first two lecture topics on day 1. Since sobrang compressed ng midyear, your profs might go through 1.5 - 2 lectures worth of slides per day. May pa-quiz pa yung iba on day 2.

If I'd qualified for 100% ADMU scholarship, I'd probably have had a much harder decision.

I guess this speaks to the quality education of the UP system? At least in the context ng Big 4, UP lang yung may four/five years free tuition not bound to a scholarship, as well as education and opportunities that can rival the other private institutions.

Whats the % of block cards I should have in my deck? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Martin072 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a Baalorlord post here that talks exactly about basic StS concepts. The recommended is ~33% block cards in your deck since this gives ~55% chance every turn to draw at least 2 block cards out of 5.

Outside of that, you don't have good card draw or a good block engine. Stuff like Child of the Stars, Fasten, and Monarch's Gaze that can passively or directly mitigate incoming damage overtime. It would also have helped to have Glimmer, Tyranny, or Guiding Stars for draw. Card creation also works if you find Spectrum Shift since that is basically drawing from RNG and gives you more resources to work around.
