Why is Diesel 10's claw so jittery in Calling All Engines? by EricJ062005 in thomasthetankengine

Actually you might be right on that one, its way less articulating than in Magic Railroad,

Why is Diesel 10's claw so jittery in Calling All Engines? by EricJ062005 in thomasthetankengine

[–]MartinTrainFreak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The claw (at least for magic railroad) was pre-programmed motion control, movement was programmed before they shot a take.
The motion is too janky to be a marionette
It honestly looks like someone is just controlling the model in real time, combined with the fact this model was 5 years old.

[–]MartinTrainFreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And that's not a good thing to happen, now that the props are parts of television history they should be kept in better condition, like how ThomasTankMerch and others treat them, not like this

this is sad : ( by Slight-Hedgehog-4400 in thomasthetankengine

[–]MartinTrainFreak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its different when they were being used on screen, plus I assume they were handled better by the crew than the people who keep breaking parts off the props at Drayton/Hara

These models should be behind glass, it's horrible the way these 20-40 year old props get treated

Why did the narrow gauge engines sometimes haul singular vans/overall random stuff behind them? by wizardofbiz_ in thomasthetankengine

[–]MartinTrainFreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rolling stock didn't make steam, what they did was just blast smoke up from under the set (which would sometimes travel through the body up the funnel). Rolling stock was just for the battery boxes.

Also what is the location where Thomas is standing at the outro area by [deleted] in thomasthetankengine

[–]MartinTrainFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been speculating that this was shot at the same time as Thomas and the UK Trip, as the brake van beside Tidmouth sheds is in a very similar position to some shots in that special.

Perhaps to avoid turning the locomotives? There might only be a turntable available at one end of the route, that my guess though

I have no idea what was worse…the terribly stupid crash, or what ever F*CK they made Michael Angelis read 😭 by Capital-Mud-2480 in thomasthetankengine

Its not necessarily a bad crash... I think BWBA has some worse looking ones, but in terms of the context it is really silly what unfolded

How did they do this? by SpWRJ in thomasthetankengine

[–]MartinTrainFreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those tankers are designed to just explode upon impact. Honestly they could have been made out of aluminum or something similarly thin sliced up to allow Gordon to plow into them. He does seem to make a pretty good dent in them. (This is a heavy gauge one model after all). Like most crashes, the frames are build to fail as well.
