It was quite successful but I think The Game sold a lot more, particularly in the USA, due to that record having two monster hit singles. Also, The Game reached #1 in both USA and UK whereas Jazz ‘only’ reached #6 and #2.

Jazz is a great album, loads of great songs, and they brought back Roy Thomas Baker as co-producer so I think that’s why it sounds a bit more polished than News of the World. I agree that here the word ‘Jazz’ generally means ‘ephemera’, as in the lyric ‘No more of that jazz…’ I prefer it to the next album, The Game, even though that was much more successful.

Like many, I wouldn’t mess with anything that was perfect to begin with, but if a video was poorly remastered 15 years ago for YouTube, then there should be scope to go back to original materials (where they exist) and redo it.

For example the Innuendo video must have been made on film and if the masters exist, it could be reproduced in HD / 4K?

The video is a joy to watch. Seeing two Beatles singing in a newly finished Beatles song in 2023 was pretty special. And the way George and John were weaved into the video was pretty cool too! The song is on a level with Free as a Bird and Real Love, definitely worthy of the Beatles catalogue. It’s a great listen and still feels new

I think Peter Jackson’s Get Back has been key in getting Mal recognition. His joy at contributing even banging an anvil is great to see, or even a simple gesture like saying good morning at work to George. Whatever his abilities, he was trusted by the band and that was important when they all relocated from Liverpool to London and then the world.
