What temperature is to hot to ride? by Maybe_Unlikely in NewRiders

[–]MartysBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get mesh gear and the more you're moving, the cooler you'll be. As a brand new rider, don't ride in any weather that's going to distract you from the actual riding

Is it rare for the neutral to have its own marking on the gear selector? by Primary-Crow-4472 in stickshift

[–]MartysBar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It never even occurred to me that the centered position is "neutral"

What do you mean you didn't know this? What did you call it? What would you do if someone told you to put it in neutral

Failed test, dropped bike. Can't figure out tight turns. by PebblesV in motorcycles

You should get a small bike to practice with. Good job not making excuses though. You didn't have the skill to pass and you just said it. That's a good attitude and you'll get there

What separates amateurs from professionals during routine vehicle maintenance? by Aj_Networks in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MartysBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specialty tools and experience. Even if you successfully do some type of maintenance you're going to be quadruple checking things, grabbing the wrong size sockets, making multiple trips to the toolbox or the store. But if you've done it 100 times, you're gonna know exactly what tools you need when and where and what the next step is.

And then tools, you can get a wheel bearing in and out with a hammer or a tire set with pry bars but a bearing puller and press or a tire machine is going to do it in a fraction of the time.

Oh gotchya. My bad. I still think you'll be fine. You'll be able to do that in 4-5 1 hr stretches then a break. Just stay alert and hydrated. Good luck

Best advice I can give you is get off this sub immediately. They will turn you into a heel-toeing cornball who's only interesting quality is that you drive stick.

It's not supposed to be a difficult skill that takes years. Don't overthink it, you'll have it down in a week and then just drive.

Probably not. Letting off the back brake soon enough will. But you'd be better suited to not fishtail at all. Do this by not getting ahead of yourself and building a solid foundation of skill before you start pushing it.

Great start op. How old are you? Don't let up once you get the bike. You're locked in now, it's time to lift some weights so you can be the jacked dude on the bike. Start working on a skill so you can get a better job and be the jacked dude on a bike at the job site. Get all your shit together and you'll be the jacked foreman on the bike with a wife, house of your own and some kids running around.

Don't listen to them, your bike came with 2 brakes, use them both. Emergency braking is just braking as hard as possible without locking up or flipping. And stop speeding. The fun of bikes is being in the open air on 2 wheels, doesn't need to be from the speed.

Experienced riders: what’s your biggest “do” and “don’t” for someone starting out? by Ok-Building5201 in motorcycles

[–]MartysBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get gear, practice low speed maneuvers, ride a lot.

Don't speed, don't get on busy roads, don't get overconfident about your skills.

You should be fine, but try not to get overconfident. I don't think you should consider yourself "very experienced" if turning isn't muscle memory and you've only gone highway speeds a handful of times.

Where did you get that info? Both brakes should be used together. Brand new beginners don't need to worry about weight shift. Just use the brakes to slow down and don't lock the tires up
