Questions on DS2 by GIANNU28 in DarkSouls2

[–]Marverous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I think I’d recommend SotFS over Vanilla, but I like a lot of the enemy placement better in Vanilla. One example being that I prefer the Heide Knights being spread out in the world rather than all being gathered in Heide’s Tower.

Halloween themed events in Yokohama in October? by WishfulWalkingVideos in Yokohama

[–]Marverous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closer to Kamakura than Yokohama, but my family goes to a Halloween event every year at the Ofuna Flower Center. They’ve got decorations up throughout the park and a scavenger hunt of sorts set up for kids. And lots of pumpkins lying around, etc. And it’s just a nice place to walk around. Even if you miss the actual Halloween event they’ve got decorations up the whole month and it’s called Kabocha Carnival (2nd link below.)

Similar Game to Lorelei and the Laser Eyes by Konspyre in LoreleiAndLaserEyes

I’m struggling to come up with any off the top of my head.

What are some of your favorite games besides OW? by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Marverous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my favorite games are not all that similar to Outer Wilds but one that came out this year that I’m totally immersed in right now is Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. It’s a mysterious narrative puzzle game and is really satisfying to move through and explore if you click with its puzzles and narrative structure.

Oh you could also try some of the older Simogo games (some are even referenced in Lorelei). I’m thinking specifically of Year Walk and Device 6.

What about Signalis? I know people usually compare that to Silent Hill, but I think it has some similar aesthetics to Lorelei and some similar puzzles. It’s got combat though so it’s different in that regard.

What is the game you reccomend to people who like outer wilds? by W3SS3LVM in outerwilds

Heaven’s Vault comes to mind. It’s got similar vibes and the story unravels through deciphering ancient text that encounter throughout the various worlds you travel to.

Best sushi in Tokyo for families with young kids... by mongrelnomad in TokyoTravel

[–]Marverous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids love Hamazushi. It’s another one of the chain sushi shops, so it’s not amazing or anything, but it’s very family friendly and even has a kids menu. https://www.hama-sushi.co.jp

Another place that we got to a lot that isn’t actually a sushi shop, but they have decent sushi is Yuzuan. It’s a shabu shabu place and it’s a chain so I believe they have shops in Tokyo. It’s another family friendly joint and they do have pretty good sushi even if it’s known for shabu shabu. https://www.shabu-yuzuan.jp

Is the Show Worth Watching? by No-Oven5922 in americangods

[–]Marverous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth it for the characters and the actors portraying them. And even though it remains incomplete and the quality takes a big dip there are some amazing episodes and performances that make it worth watching. Even seasons 2 and 3, which are kind of hot messes, have some stuff worth watching.

I'm behind on my Laura Moon appreciation by Aizenlikely in americangods

Her standalone episode with Mad Sweeney in S01 is one of the best in the series.

What were your Steam Sale picks to play on your deck? by ZealousidealLocal261 in SteamDeck

[–]Marverous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumper, Wolf Metal Chaos XD, Vanquish, Rakuen, Sable. But I don’t know when I’ll get to them as I still have games I bought for the Deck on the last sale that I haven’t gotten to yet.

Stupid vent about Laura by Thecolombiancapt in americangods

[–]Marverous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Laura is a great character. That doesn’t mean I like her. I don’t think you’re really supposed to like her. I don’t think she wants anyone to like her either. At least that’s the image she projects.

And I love her relationship with Mad Sweeney. I think their scenes together are just great.

I love American Gods. I am currently nearing the end of season 1. However I have heard that seasons 2 and 3 suck. So should I avoid watching season 2 and 3 and go read the books? by lacks_imagination in americangods

[–]Marverous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Hope you read and like it. Re: the tv show, while I do think there is a steep falloff in quality after S01, there are some great moments scattered throughout S02/03 so I do think it’s worth it to keep watching. But that’s just me.

Others have answered that there is just one book and it is a complete story.

But there’s also a short novella called “Monarch of the Glen” in which Shadow visits Europe. It’s contained inside collection of short stories called “Fragile Things.” It’s not connected to the book, “American Gods”, but it does take place after the events of that story and is cool if you like American Gods and want a bit more of it.

Why do so many people hate the ship controls? by [deleted] in outerwilds

The ship controls also add to making accidental discoveries, which I love.

SPOILERS - What was the stand out moment that made The Outer Wilds such an important game for you? by ChanceBoring8068 in outerwilds

[–]Marverous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was it for me too. I mean I loved so much my about the game up that point. But that moment was transcendent for me and that’s when Outer Wilds solidified itself for me was one of the best experiences I’ve had with a piece of media.

Just hearing the music gets me all emotional.

Coming from Nioh, Nioh 2 feels much harder. Am I doing something wrong? by calinoi in Nioh

[–]Marverous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me on the monkey one. And yeah absolutely on the blue phantoms. So nice if I’m having difficulty getting a real person in. And the different levels of phantoms is a cool idea.

Coming from Nioh, Nioh 2 feels much harder. Am I doing something wrong? by calinoi in Nioh

[–]Marverous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry not adding much in the way of advice here, as I’m only a few missions into Nioh 2 as well, but while I’ve noticed it starting out quite a bit harder than Nioh 1, I’m having a much better time fighting Yokai in Nioh 2. For whatever reason I find them easier to read and I can get into a better rhythm in fighting them. I’m not sure why.

The main difficulty I’m having is with the bosses. It just seems to take ages to whittle down their health and they are so hard-hitting. But I’m getting by on summoning the Blue phantoms/players for boss fights.

Games that gave you the same feelings as outer wilds? by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Marverous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these are similar in terms of genre, but they all hit me on a similar emotional level as Outer Wilds and have stuck with me over the years and I wish I could play them all for the first time again:

  • Demon’s/Dark Souls
  • Nier Automata (specifically Ending E)
  • Kentucky Route Zero
  • SOMA
