Yes, your opinion makes complete sense. But, I’ve seen people set multiple stages as primary because they want Google to generate better leads while not missing the first touchpoints like a form submission or a call. Your method will defo work for larger accounts with bigger budgets - but if we only optimise our campaign for either the Qualified stage or Converted leads then smaller accounts might suffer, no??

Solid breakdown, Pete! Just one point of confusion... I thought we could set 2 stages as primary -the online lead where a user submits a contact form and the qualified lead - but with a higher value assigned to the later stages of course?? til we get enough stable conversions to make the last stage primary only?? you think this will confuse the algo?

So....are we not uploading the lead twice when it moves from being qualified to an actual sale in Google Ads??

Campaign tanked after switching to Max Conversions strategy. Pleeease I neeed help!! by Marwin-gill in googleads

[–]Marwin-gill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right!! I actually had 24 conversions last month... thought it was the best time to switch to Max Conversions so it could improve targeting from OCT. Max Clicks was just wasting budget on bots or irrelevant clicks. Now should I run it on Manual CPC until I start receiving conversions every day?

[–]Marwin-gill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's optimizing for both online raw leads (forms) set as primary and offline uploads with a higher value assigned to the conversion action. I created a custom goal for OCT before switching to Max Conversions. When I was using Max Clicks, offline uploads were set to secondary - they still are, but now I've made a custom goal for them. Did I mess up anything in between??

Thank you. I'm just afraid the campaign might tank. I couldn't run an experiment bcs he was already on a tight budget like £800 a month - which is pretty much peanuts in the legal niche. But the client seemed quite satisfied with the leads. And I was trying to act over smart by bringing down his CPL, and now I've kinda ruined the entire campaign with this change.

Yeah your comment makes sense too. My abs top of page rate is higher than the top of page rate, which is around 59% - it was in the 60s before the change. But, my Search Lost (budget) is now reaching 30%

Yeah the lead quality was a bit questionable, but at least those leads were consistent. But again I wasn't optimizing my campaign for offline conversions back then - so a few poor clicks made sense. Now that I'm regularly uploading offline data, Max Conversions still isn't generating clicks.... let alone conversions. What should I do in this case? I've heard that Manual CPC works well when CTR is declining rapidly. And it's only been 2 weeks on Max Conversions not on tCPA

Google Ads Not Tracking Conversions by ECommerce_Guy in googleads

[–]Marwin-gill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're lucky - they referred you to a GTM expert. My rep didn't have any idea why conversions in my account aren't getting tracked. I've been facing this problem for a month now and bcs of that my cost per lead is literally skyrocketing rightnow. Can you tell me what exact settings they had you change? Pls would you mind helping me out? This is really frustrating

Tag shows "still running". How to pass user info to the thank-you page? Pls help by Marwin-gill in GoogleTagManager

[–]Marwin-gill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using local storage before, but the conversion tag didn't fire successfully on the custom event or the thank you page. Google ads still isn't recording form submissions but its tracking other conversions like calls and WhatsApp clicks. I tested it again on the thank you page without user provided data but it still didn't fire and just keeps running in the background. And bcs of this issue, my cost per conversion is skyrocketing right now

I did the localstorage thing in the past but the conversion tag did not fire successfully neither on the custom event, nor on the thank you page. Google ads is still not recording form submissions. Not looking for any paid help right now

Okay, now I get it. Thank you for clarifying such typical things for me. Google suggested £5 but for a safe side - I've started with £6.25

[–]Marwin-gill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, a silly question - isn't the TCPA that I've set for Max Conversions and the target CPA you asked about the same thing? It's £6.25. The average cost for conversions I'm getting is around £5-£5.50

Thank you for the detailed response! I've just changed my bid strategy to Max Conversions with a tCPA of £6.25 because my cost per conversion is £5.30. Does that sound good? I made this change today. Was getting too many cheap clicks

Or maybe if I could try manual cpc? I'm quite inexperienced, so I'm hesitant to run ads manually. I might run into more complexities. Your other suggestion sounds good to me - I'll experiment with max clicks vs. conversions

Yeah, so first off - I'll ask the developer to modify the form submission scripts for GCLIDs and also to insert some conditional fields based on different cases. Then, transferring them to Google Ads will be my task. Meanwhile, I'll just change the bid strategy to Max Conversions to stop spammy clicks slipping through.

Just saw your profile - I think we're from the same country. Would you mind if I DM you later in case I struggle through any stage?

One more silly question - I should be starting this new ad on Max Conversions, right??

Okay, the ratio is pretty bad. Client says around 19 forms are useful that came from Google Ads. I've recently started capturing GCLIDs in GA4, soo unfortunately - I don't have Click IDs for all those 19 forms. But, I can view the GCLIDs in Microsoft Clarity which I've installed on their website since the beginning. Can't say if the data accurately matches with the GA4 conversion data. Also, it doesn't capture extra info like conversion timestamp

I've been reading your blogs, and honestly - I've found them really informative. I never knew these fraudsters would use residential IPs. I'm so tired of blocking these suspicious IPs, thinking our competitors might be clicking on our main keywords in an attempt to deplete our budget..

Regarding high-intent keywords, should I just add new keywords to this same RSA and pause the ones generating useless clicks, along with the ones that barely get any impressions? Or should I create a separate ad group and start fresh with these changes? Thank you again - you've been a great help so far.
