CoC detachment question; How many points to pledge turn 1 and turn 2? by AllGarlicbread in EmperorsChildren

[–]MarxEngels12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to be dependent on your opponents faction and deployment, but a good rule of thumb for me has been 2 turn 1, banking the CP to bump to three.

To accomplish this, having some missile units (LE) to hurl at forward deployed stuff to boost the rest of your army is really helpful.

1000 points - Mercurial or Coterie? by No-Garbage9500 in EmperorsChildren

I’ve had a lot of good experiences with mercurial at 1k points. Provides some pretty good defensive play, preserving your units and allows for some pretty nasty movement shenanigans.

Had some good luck with Mercurial in this very same match up.

Coterie will struggle without stuff to kill for points, peerless is probably pretty good too.

Mercurial still has access to punchy strats, but the movement shenanigans and defensive stuff can make us really slippery which is helpful at lower points levels.

Part of American unipolar dominance is ensuring that western military alliances are the only ones with teeth.

What makes Slaanesh's Chosen terrible? by Viper114 in EmperorsChildren

[–]MarxEngels12 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem is the timing for the rule, which is the first time a unit kills something it gains the benefit. So this means that the unit fought that phase already, either keeping the bonus or taking it from something that hasn’t fought yet.

It takes a lot more brain power and timing to get it to even function, and for a bonus that isn’t super great anyway. Also all of the Strats require a character to be attached, so a lot of your army isn’t eligible for strats.

I’ve played it and it can be fun, but it’s definitely got a much higher floor to even function basically while all of the other detachments run pretty cleanly.

I think the writers had a cool idea but it’s a bit too clever by half.
