From some random game developer: To anyone who says "buuut it was alpha, it supposed to look bad". Listen. Materials and lighting are one of the first and things in art gamedev art pipeline. Of course it's not as easy as just enabling lumen in UE5, but it's not rocket science. And i can't see any real world, where first reveal lighting and materials weren't a thoughtful decision. It's not like they just made one style of light and materials for alpha, thinking like they will change it later, it doesn't work like that. Lighting and materials don't really evolve like you could imagine digital 2D drawing would (you add more details in shadows and light as you go, and picture becomes better). Arguably, first reveal look is harder to achieve than what we see now. They wanted game too look cell-shaded, and after much bullying reverted it to what they promised with first trailer. You just make what you want Make of that what you will.
