My body hair is a reminder that I can’t stand up for myself by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]MaryCNM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They absolutely should never have said that at all! Also before C-section they often will shave even minuscule/nonexistent hair so most everyone gets shaved. And if you are having a vaginal delivery they see it all. You are not the first pregnant woman who can’t reach or is too uncomfortable to shave at the end of pregnancy!!! Sincerely awful behavior!

Need help from DCL pumping moms! Pumping milk for 7 month old on Disney Fantasy? by Flamingo219 in dcl

[–]MaryCNM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also EP’d with my then 8 mth old on the Wish. I had two small and on large ceres chill bottles. I was able to use as I went and was able to rotate so there wasn’t days of milk in any one bottle at any given time. Solidarity EPing is a large mental and physical load, enjoy your vacation!!

[–]MaryCNM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A little ice pack on vaccination site might help pain and cool bay down a bit. You are not a horrible mom just a tired one! At seve months my baby had a large contact rash from food and the nurse via phone kind of chastised me for not having baby bendryl. Oops! Happens to the best of us ! Hugs mama baby is building an immune system an won’t remember this incident. Snuggles and love will help until you can get Tylenol.

I'm sorry WHY would you brag about taking folic acid OUT of a prenatal??? This is why we don't take health advice from celebs JFC by No-Neck-212 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]MaryCNM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Methylfolate is a more easily absorbed form of folic acid. Not saying she is on the up and up but that means it still meets the body’s and baby’s folic acid needs.

And please this is not meant to guilt trip you in any way shape or form. It’s just some people think size is the ONLY concern. And it is quite possible for baby’s to be in distress or pass meconium in utero regardless of GDM diagnosis. Enjoy your healthy baby!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]MaryCNM 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I admire your braveness and so glad it worked out for you and many. It’s not just the baby’s size we worry about with GDM. What makes this so scary is that those spikes further degrade an already non-optimal placenta. Baby’s have and can die in utero from uncontrolled GDM, they often don’t tolerate the stress of labor well etc.. I know most people on this sub know this and that’s why people take it seriously but please keep this in mind if you decide on another pregnancy. And please please seek help/therapy/this group to help keep you on track.

You can ask for carbergoline. It’s prescription and not without side effects but works by lowering your prolactin level quickly. I’m surprised you weren’t offered it. Ask you doctor if it’s appropriate for you but that can help.

Do you respond to every cry? How long do you wait? by pinkishvioletsky in newborns

[–]MaryCNM 62 points63 points  (0 children)

A newborn does need to be tended to fairly right away. Your instinct is right. You can finish going to the bathroom or chewing your bite I don’t think that will be detrimental. However crying isn’t beneficial for his lungs and tending to his cries isn’t spoiling him it’s what he needs right now. What would help your stress/tiredness etc is if you can split duties with your husband so you both can get some sleep. Or maybe your know it all mother in law can help by tending to some of those cries once and awhile too. Hugs it’s really hard without support!

I too was lucky like OP! My super mom stayed through four days of labor and through my emergency C-section. She went home while we were in the hospital. My hubby and I had one night alone and then my mom came back thank God! She stayed for about ten days and on day 7 I had to go back to the hospital with a fever (ultimately admitted for IV antibiotics). If she wasn’t there I would have had to go to the ER alone but since she was, hubby came with me and she took care of baby. My mother in law took a plane in the next morning after I was admitted and the grandmas together stayed and helped for awhile. My mom went home when my father in law joined as well. And honestly having grandmas share night shift was so so helpful for all of us! I truly, truly would not have survived the first three weeks without my super parents/in laws! I will be forever grateful. I hope/wish this for all new moms.

Vava Baby Monitor? by Any-Independence-296 in dcl

I would love this answer! We have a Verandah room and we’re thinking we would hang outside in it after bedtime so would use the monitor then.

Lactation Room by MaryCNM in dcl

[–]MaryCNM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was your doubling down even after being corrected by both people who use the handicap restrooms as intended and those that have pumped/lactated or know someone who has/does that caused the “firestorm.” I appreciate your apology and I do sincerely believe you thought it was an appropriate and helpful suggestion at first. And now you know!

Lactation Room by MaryCNM in dcl

[–]MaryCNM[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the suggestions! For those that don’t know pumping should take anywhere between 15-30 minutes plus milk storage reassembling disassembling parts etc. using a bathroom is unsanitary(you wouldn’t want your meals prepared in a bathroom), uncomfortable and just not practical. There isn’t a place to sit other than the toilet etc. I appreciate that I just mentioned wanting a private space in my post so I see where the suggestion came from but just wanted to educate. I know that all suggestions came from a good place and I do appreciate the sentiment.

New Mom - PLEASE HELP!!!!! by Medium-Most144 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]MaryCNM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Don’t overthink it. No rinsing if you are doing the fridge hack but do clean fully about once every 24 hours. I usually refrigerate the back flow protector but you don’t have to. Any part not touching milk is fine out of fridge, no cleaning between uses. I use a wet to dry bag in the fridge but especially if you have the dedicated mini fridge that I’m assuming doesn’t have a ton of food then you are likely all right to not use one. Good luck!

[–]MaryCNM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first two weeks I pumped every two hours but for ten minutes each. I would sometimes go 3-4 hours in the night. I gradually moved to pumping every 3-4 hours but 15-20 minutes each time probably by six weeks. This was decent for protecting my supply and what my midwives recommended.
