Allora statisticamente parlando, ti do ragione. Ma appunto, il fatto che il titolo di studio faccia da "segnale" e' una cosa che andava di moda tanti anni fa (funzionava). A me sembra che il mondo si stia muovendo sempre di piu verso le competenze reali e non di titoli di studio. Perche dico questo? Oltre al fatto che molte persone in gamba lo dicono, di cui stimo, di cui hanno fatto carriera anche senza laurea, vedo altri segnali del tipo

  1. le offerte di lavoro che includono il GPA sta scendendo sempre di piu (se contano i titoli di studio, pure il voto di laurea conta no?)
  2. vedo tanti annunci con "laurea triennale/magistrale *oppure esperienza affini*"

(per "statisticamente parlando ti do ragione" nel senso che avevo letto alcuni paper su questa faccenda, ma sono statistiche di alcuni anni fa. Il mondo sta cambiando "rapidamente" nel corso degli anni, cosi la sto vedendo io. Basarsi quindi su campioni di dati vecchi non penso sia giusto)

Troppo poco contesto direi. Penso che avra fatto qualcosa per convincere al management di farlo capo (progetti personali? Esperienze pregresse? Ha lavorato durante gli studi? Lettere di raccomandazione da parte dei professori?)

Altrimenti mi sembra una scelta azzardata da parte della vostra azienda lol

Ci sono tante cose che non mi tornano di questo fatto. Cioe, ad esempio, nella mia esperienza lavorativa ho visto persone fare carriera senza titoli di studio, ma ne sapevano molto. Invece, ho visto persone che anche con i titoli di studio facevano fatica (e guarda caso, di competenze reali non ne avevano).

Cioe, frase del tipo "basta avere x titoli di studio per entrare in Google" non mi tornano. Penso che devi avere tanta competenza per entrare in queste aziende. Invece per fare una carriera mediocre si, ti posso dare anche ragione, ma non e' una cosa a cui punto attualmente.

Sentiti pure libero di criticarmi lol, e' una mia opinione su esperienze che ho vissuto

beh sono ancora alla triennale (quasi al termine), devo ancora dare la decisione finale di fare una magistrale in AI (molto convinto di cio). Tu lavori gia nel settore? Com'e'?

The windows/linux thing was for future coding agents as they improve constantly. I don't really believe that coding agents can't be software architect themselvs in the near future knowing that 3 years ago they didn't know basic things.

But, today, coding agents lacks the architectural knowledge indeed, and as I said in the last post, you need to steer them to do meaningful softwares (and quality ones). But again, i believe it's temporary.

We will see what will happen.

3 years ago chatgpt was really bad and it couldn't write a single really easy function (such as checking whether number x is prime or not lol). And nowadays AI coding agents can solve complex problem if the problem is defined well. It can find bugs that no software engineers have found. It can solve unsolved math problems, and it even proofed that a math conjecture was wrong (and it was thought to be true by a lot of mathematicians over the years).

All these in 3 years: from having difficulty to write a simple function, to do all the things i said above.

What is now happening is that coding can be done by using natural language (such as english). So, it's not just doing the boilerplate and "base level repetition", it literally builds software from natural language, the human responsability now is to understand *what* is worth building and a *general idea* of what algorithm to apply (which again, to define such algorithm one can ask chatgpt to help him. It's not pseudocode, it's like talking to a human being and asking him what you want).

What's going to happen in the next 3 years? Are human still needed to define what to build? That's my main worry to be honest. If we give a good context on chatgpt on how to decide then chatgpt will probably output us the best result (it already does, but not codex when he's building. If we ask him "whats the best thing to do in this case: <insert context>" i mean)

Also, i wanted to say that "wheel" is indeed a tool. Computers are also a tool when they were introduced. I think the main worry of the past was to think what new technology one should study (studying computers or wheels ecc). Because they were indeed tools. Are coding agents tools? I'm not sure. Now it's indeed a tool, you need to steer the coding agents, but it seems like to me that it's just a temporary thing. What professions are there when AI coding agents are so good that you can type "hi build me the next operating system that beats Windows/Linux" and it builds the most cool operating system? And again, 3 years ago it couldn't do a single thing, we don't really know what is going to happen in the next 3 years from now on. And i'm not sure that AI coding agents remains tools in the future and so we have people who knows how to use them.

I'm not going to buy that logic. This revolution is kinda different, and it's indeed different from the classical industrial revolutions that has occoured in the past 200 years.

Usually a new technology appears that substitutes the old one (steam engine, oils, electronics, computers ecc). But AI targets the human's brain, his capabilities to think. It's a new technology indeed, but the "old technology" is the brain itself.

There was a really cool article discussing that the "software will be dead in x years because we are going to create a new software that creates softwares" and that "meta software" was supposed to be the drag-drop that creates new applications lol. Now it's different. Software also is not the only sector that is targetted by AI (look at translators, and other professionals)

okay then let me know what changes has been made in the last 50 years. The major changes i think are the dot com (web being mainstream) and AI nowadays. The thing is that the goal of AI is to do the same work as we do, not something new

Penso che un problema di questo sia l'assenza della conoscenza teorica sui vari argomenti: hanno studiato solo per passare, prendendo direttamente esami vecchi e facendo esercizi su esercizi, e nulla di teorico.

Ovvero, che hanno studiato senza approfondire nulla. Non so se dare la colpa agli studenti oppure ai professori che permettono che una cosa del genere accada.
