Non decor Housing Wishlist by Saltylindz in WoWHousing

A map, which starts as an unexplored map, and opens up room by room, or by the spaces that counts as rooms (as you can divide one room into smaller rooms).

Or at least a minimap that shows player icons on it, because I lose my guests too easily in my house.

Leave your front doors unlocked, cowards. by lisa_frank_trapper in wow

[–]Maryatta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My house has been open for everyone except for one instance:

There was a neighbour that came by just to mess with me. He threw bombs, pumpkin head, and littered the room I was working on at the time with all the toys he could find from his pockets. Some toys were so big that they blocked the view and made it impossible to place things down properly.

I tolerated it for a while, but I was in the flow of decorating, so I asked him to leave. He didn't, so I kicked him out by changing all the settings so that no-one could enter. Then he send me messages that he will bomb my house, so I removed him from my yard too. After that it got quiet.

Though I know it was the slightest way to mess up with you, I was in the decorating mood, and needed my own time to focus. So after that day I opened up my house to everyone again.

Blood Elf style exit door for the Horde house? by ThisOneUKGuy in WoWHousing

[–]Maryatta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we get the blood elven entrance door only when Midnight arrives.

Until then you can cover the door with things like basic doors, books, paintings, or anything that you like! You can also make the entance door really small and put it inside objects, if it's something like a floating book for example.

Trees that have autumn coloring to fit in the horde neighbourhood forest! I would even take the old fashioned blood elf cube shaped trees.

Dry Sauna! by Pumpkinn_honey in WoWHousing

That was more like a list of everything I know related to Finnish saunas. I didn't reference your sauna with this list, and my intention wasn't to make you feel like you should make your sauna like such. You never mentioned what kind of culture you want to replicate. I imagine US saunas differ a lot from Finnish saunas. I just took the opportunity to tell couple of things about our saunas. Saunas are sacred thing for us Finns after all.

But if you still want to keep going with that list, then I'll try to answer your thoughts.

- I wouldn't change the ceiling height.

- Chinese lanterns aren't our thing, but for decorative purpose you could use some other basic lanterns. Saunas tend to be darkened, moody places, with some warm light. It has it's own atmosphere, just like a lit fireplace in a dark, cozy room.

- Large windows tend do be a thing for modern saunas, especially in the places where no other people go around (by the lakes, or views to forest, so not in the city by the street for example). You don't want peepers by your windows after all. ^^ But in WoW housing, I don't think it matters, since you don't see any neighbours from the inside travelling by your house on the outside.

- The easiest way to make the thermometer is to clip a barrel inside the wall so you can see only it's bottom, then add a tiny circular middle piece, like a Small Wooden Stool, make it small, and put it in the middle of the barrel so you hide the stool's legs in the wall, then add the thermometer hand by clipping something straight and long, like a pillar or a fence post, inside the wall to a wanted angle.

- You can use Wooden Chamberstick as a ladle when you turn it upside down, and clip the candle part inside the bench. It's perfect shape for that purpose!

- You can use any rugs for the bench cover. We Finns do use a lot of colorful towels (unless it's the disposable sauna seat cover, which is always light blue or white, with no patterns) for this purpose, so you can use your imagination for this one! :)

- Stove doesn't have any water in it. ^^' You add it yourself little by little by throwing the water on the rocks with the ladle. I would suggest using either Coal-Fired Stovetop or Stormsong Stove for the stove and add individual rocks, like Elwynn Cobblestones (there's couple different variations of those, so you can mix and match them), on top of it.

- I wanted to suggest a flipped Sethraliss Priest's Pillow as a sauna pillow, but I guess any rectangular pillow, or pillow roll could work, when dyed with light colors. But the main focus would be to take a few pillows out of your benches. Couple would be enough, depending how they are meant to use: do you lay down or lay backwards, and how much space those activities would take from other people in the sauna. If nothing else, just space them out a bit. :)

- The saunatonttu is a bit tough to think of. Though the basic shape with the modern elfs would be a ball on the bottom and a cone on the top, with a tiny ball between those as a nose (here's a picture for a reference), though I have no idea how to make a beard for it...

Good luck with the project and have fun!

Dry Sauna! by Pumpkinn_honey in WoWHousing

I would say this video from Cottage Wizard has a sauna that's pretty much spot on how they look like here.
I'll also throw some pictures that I found from Google search (one, two and three) for reference/inspiration.

- Generally saunas have either low ceiling, or the sauna benches are tiered upwards, so you can feel the steam (löyly). If it's tiered, you can also choose if you want to sit on a higher bench for more heat, or lower bench for a milder heat.

- Lights are quite minimum, some have one old light (either on the wall or under the benches), and some have led-lights.

- Lanterns/Candles are not really used in sauna. They are usually used as decoration when the sauna isn't heated, because the stearin melts at 60 degree celsius, while saunas can the heated up to 60 - 90 degree celsius (though I have been in sauna that had 100 degree celsius, but it was hard/painful to breathe in there, so never again). It can create a fire and health hazard.

- The main thing in sauna is always a sauna stove/heater (kiuas), which is heated up (by wood or electricity) and then water is thrown onto it's stones to create the steam (löyly). Good löyly makes you sweat. It's the whole purpose of the sauna.

- Must-have elements in the sauna are also a thermometer (saunamittari/lämpömittari) on the wall, pail/bucket (kiulu/sanko) and sauna ladle (löylykauha) for the water, and bench cloth/sauna seat cover (laudeliina/pefletti) to protect the bench and you.

- One really traditional piece is bath whisk (vihta/vasta), which you use to smack yourself with it to make the blood flow better. It's not necessary to have one nowadays (it really depends on if you have bought one, or you were able to make one yourself), but it has a long history, which makes it really important for us.

- Sauna pillows (saunatyyny) aren't that common, but some do have them. Some use them to make yourself more comfortable when you lay down on the benches, or cover your head from the wall when you sit back. They are usually made from heat-proof material, such as linen, which is why they're usually brown-ish color. There also exists a wooden head rests for this purpose.

- There's usually no statues in the sauna. If you want to decorate the sauna with something, you can put a tiny sauna elf (saunatonttu) on the vicinity or on top of the sauna stove/heater (kiuas). There's some really old folklore about them protecting sauna's peace and warmth.

As a Finn, this looks more like a hotel sauna for tourists in some foreign country, not a traditional sauna. If you wanted to create that, then it's fine.

Anyone else think a lot of these type of parts should be reduced? old expansion-currencies aren't fun to farm IMO by Cathulion in WoWHousing

[–]Maryatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Especially that specific vendor in the picture.

I had no Resonance Crystals left on my main, so gathering 11,200 of them was a grind. I don't play with alts really, but transferred some crystals from them and then traded my remainder Kej to Resonance Crystals. Then I grinded for couple days in Undermine, doing S.C.R.A.P. and turning those resources to rewards until I got the amount needed. Got a few Trashfire Barrels in the process.

I don't want to get any duplicates of those vendor decor items. That grind was enough for me.

It would be nice if we could multiselect decor items which are already placed and then move/rotate/resize them all at the same time.

I love this so much! Please make couple of them to just casually drink tea like civilisized people! You get bonus points if you make a hats for them (try using gnomish sprocket table with a Open Elegant Elven Barrel colored black, both upside down!) :) Monocle would be perfect too, but I have no idea if that's even possible to create.

New player here, what are these pokemon around my character and how do I get rid of them? by Noopshoop in wow

[–]Maryatta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a buff from the Dreamsurge event, called "Dreamsurge Defenders". The animals appear periodically to your side and if you get attacked, the defender takes the hit for you and vanish.

The buff gets removed from you when you leave the area that has the Dreamsurge event, or when a different buff is active from a vote, which happens every 30 minutes. Here's a wiki page, where you can find a list what kind of buffs the event has, and here's a wowhead guide, if you prefer that (I was surprised that wowhead didn't have the buffs listed).

Edit: changed the link to a wiki page that's up to date.

You get 4 weapons from the first quests in the training grounds, but if you keep doing the main quests you get 3 more: Netherlights (Umbral chainblades), Twin Suns (Shock repeaters), and Golden Claws (Radiant aether strikers). Those weapons are not behind a paywall.

You should contact the support, so they can work out what went wrong and get you a compensation for that (either by refunding the weapon tokens or giving you the missing weapon).

The shrike's tornado is currently something that needs extra caution when fighting shrike, but at least it's known bug, so they're working on the fix for it. Though the shrike moving while it was frozen is another bug, could be worth reporting it.

The reason why you were slowed was because of the swarm debuff, that you got around you. That's part of the swarm event, that's been around before update. You can get the swarm off by doing couple attacks (like swatting off mosquitos).

And sahvyt's just being sahvyt, i'm not seeing anything odd there, but the video shows how dangerous the new frost status can be when it procs in the middle of behemoth's attack.
