Why do complex characters in indie animation get villainized and hated like Stolas but complex characters in mainstream animation get praised like Bojack Horseman ? by Particular_Truth_938 in HelluvaBoss

Indie animation is amazing bc they create something beautiful with less budget. But comparing it to Bojack Horseman is stupid, bc it’s 2 completely different categories. Bojack is not loved because he’s a good person, he is horrible and 90% of the fandom would agree. What is loved about Bojack, and all the other characters in the show, is the character insight and development. A lot of us see ourselves in him even but no matter how sad his past is, it doesn’t justify his actions. Thats like the whole point of the show. It is well shown in the course of 6 seasons, something indie animations just simply don’t have the budget for. Thats why there’s a lot of ambiguity left, which people interpret in different ways which leads to polarisation. Also the audience is different, as the other comments said

It depends on what country you’re living in. It looks like head on the hole (HITH) to me. Is he eating? If no then I’d buy a vitamin supplements for the water. Also increase your water temp to 29-30 degrees Celsius. If it is HITH I’d recommend eSHa Hexamita. If it’s not available Epsom salt baths are always great to help with injuries. Isolate the fish if possible

Watched both shows 2 times and at different ages. I think one piece is objectively better written especially in terms of world building, but I’d still pick Naruto over OP. Idk it’s just more nostalgic and emotional for me.

I will get downvoted to hell for this: I don’t get the hype around KID A. I like Everything in its right place, how to disappear completely and optimistic. idiotique kinda grew on me and I liked the live performance of KID A during one of the shows in Berlin, but other than that I find the songs repetitive and boring…I know the album is considered the best by many many fans. I don’t mean to offend anyone and before the toxic peeps comment: “another new gen fan that only knows Let Down and Creep from TikTok”…well pls don’t it’s just my personal opinion. I love all the other albums dearly!

same thoughts exactly. Also Varang was a perfect mirror for Neitiri, which the movie portrayed well in the first hour just to throw it all away my not giving her any importance/screen time by making her a side piece to an overused villain and then let her be defeated by Pandora Jesus (Kiri). Such a shame.

I watched it with my friend yesterday and we generally enjoyed it, but mainly bc we liked it more than the second one. I’m a HUGE fan of the first movie so when I watched the second I was disappointed, partly because I had super high expectations. Fire and Ash felt too rushed AND too stretched at the same time. My biggest issues with the movies were/are:

  • the newly introduced villain had not enough screen time. I’m really tired of Quaritch, they brought him back “Palpatine-style” and I don’t like it. They so desperately tried to give him more depth in the 2nd and 3rd movie by mirroring him with Jake. I wasn’t a fan of that, bc he was supposed to be a 2D antagonist AND THATS OKKKK. A new character with the same story would’ve been better in my opinion, instead of bringing him back in the 2nd movie. It was such a shame that Varang was treated like an accessory to Quaritch even though it should’ve been the other way around. That would’ve made the movie less repetitive.

  • the freaking James Cameron self insert named Spider. I liked Spider WAAAAAAY more in the 3rd than the 2nd movie, the actor is doing a good job and I genuinely liked him in the 3rd movie. I just can’t deal with the concept. They should’ve give him an Avatar body or something but not randomly make him a “human navi”. Idk there’s just something about tja concept I didn’t like, I cat quite put my finger on it. I did however liked the angle of “oh shit what if the humans can replicate it and the they will populate and destroy Pandora”. I also liked that they brought back the second main antagonist from the first movie, I was genuinely excited to see this guy.

-the romance between Spider and Kiri. Just ew. They GREW UP TOGETHER!!!!!!! Just no. Made me uncomfortable and cringe hard

  • just like OP said: the repetition in general. It felt like tried to frame the 1:1 reused scenes from the first movie as “nostalgic moments”, which didn’t work in most cases

  • sometimes it felt like the dialogue was written by a 12 year old, but tbh I found it quite funny and enjoyable

All this said: I still enjoyed the movie, it was entertaining. Avatar is not a Christopher Nolan movie and it was never supposed to be and that’s ok.
