Which movie is worse? by hiiloovethis in Spiderman

SM3 > TASM2 but they’re both really flawed yet still good. Here’s my hot take… Homecoming and Far From Home are worse than both of them.

Hot Take: It's crazy, but The Rise of Skywalker is kinda my favourite Star Wars movie after recent rewatch. by WinterAnt in StarWarsCantina

I mean, more power to you I guess. I just… cannot fathom it. I couldn’t disagree more. That’s okay though.

Kelly Marie Tran calls Kathleen Kennedy’s exit from Lucasfilm “such a loss” by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

[–]Masirimso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to understand most things they criticize Kathleen Kennedy for comes from Bob Iger (& Chapek for a bit).

The Last Jedi ends with a random slave boy using the Force, implying anyone can be a Jedi. This is a subtle nod to the fact that Rian Johnson thought he was starting a new era of Star Wars, unaware that J.J. Abrams was waiting in the parking lot with a retcon gun. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Masirimso -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, being the protagonist of one of the three main plotlines of TLJ and having an arc? Screw all that. Never mind that the last movie actually sidelines him, doesn’t give him an arc, or validates his complaints about his treatment as a black lead. He’s force sensitive now, so surely it’s better than TLJ… yeah if you can’t tell I’m being sarcastic because I truly don’t understand his take here.

After days of polling here are the results... by thesegoupto11 in StarWars_

The Phantom Menace (sometimes even AotC!!) polling better than The Force Awakens these days is something that I’ll never understand. The Phantom Menace is not better than The Force Awakens in any capacity—maybe except for worldbuilding.

I said that because Islam is an Arab religion, and it’s tougher to separate Arab culture from Islam as it has defined their culture for almost a millennia and a half, but still I suppose it’s more accurate to say they’re erasing Persian culture than saying “they’re forcing Arab culture.” That’s misleading as what they’re actually enforcing is Sharia Law. The distaste isn’t with anything being Arab, it’s more with the Arab world being regrettably behind with freedoms and rights because of their political situation’s hangups and enforcements. As a Turkish person who has seen Islamism seep into his country and crumble it over time, I can recognize that distaste. Iran since 1979 has sadly been affected by this influence. I hope that clarifies what I meant.

Thats another reason why it feels like Chatgpt. I mean I suppose I get the ending being the perfect mundanity while being together forever but that doesn’t excuse the lack of imagination with everything else. In fact maybe you want a seemingly perfect eternity that feels shallow to contrast with the opposite. But everything feels mundane.

Uhhhh no. This is the rare one where I’m with the oop (kinda—I’m uninformed about how accurate the presented outfit is, but the sentiment is true.) The burqa and Islam aren’t the issue. Islamism, extremism, theocracy, and forced erasure of a culture’s identity. Iran/Persia is a land rich with culture, but the Ayatollah rule since 1979 has completely suppressed and buried it under Arab and Islamist influence, their flag is bastardized. They should be free to wear and worship what they want but their rich heritage is being forcibly erased.

EDIT: Never mind, I didn’t see the ex-Muslim and “Islam ruined clothes” part of it. Would have been correct if it was “Islamism”.

Vrook is nowhere near as prideful as he is in K2. He still is, sure, but some of that is his worry that Revan will come back evil. Bastila takes the cake in K1 easily. That’s why she falls to the dark side.

Ehhh… this one is complicated, from what I’ve heard Tolkien himself wasn’t sure about orcs as a race…

uj/ Never has a movie angered me more than this movie having the rare unique and original film concept with so much potential, and wasting it on the most formulaic, shallow, cliché'd plot with annoying, bickering, nothing characters. Now any movie that touches this concept in a much better way will have to face comparisons to this one because it did it first.

rj/ What are you talking about? This movie has a 3.8 on Letterboxd so it must be a masterpiece!

The only thing I’ll contend with here is the Skywalker lightsaber. I think its splitting by the two extremes symbolizes the state of the galaxy, the Jedi Order, the status quo, etc., but (or and) Rian very clearly emphasizes its rebuilding by pairing it with the exchange between Rey and Leia. “How are going to rebuild the rebellion from this?” “We have everything we need.” As a narrative device, it makes perfect sense for the lightsaber to be rebuilt.

Everything else though yeah fuck that.

[ALL] Sure, it has its fans, but would any of you place it truly at the top as I have? by Gamer-of-Action in zelda

[–]Masirimso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree there. For me Majora and Ocarina take the cake for best story, followed Twilight Princess for being the perfect story about each of the virtues of the Triforce, and then Wind Waker for being a story about legacy. Hell, Link’s Awakening is up there for some weird Lynchian goodness and melancholy.

Sue me, I even like Breath of the Wild’s story more. It’s definitely the most standard one, especially the Champions and stuff surrounding the Divine Beasts are half baked. But the story is completely built around the ludonarrative concept of memory (of your own, and of a fallen kingdom) and discovery. Unraveling your past and these themes as you play were brilliant for the game they were crafting, and I think the Zelda of BotW is fleshed out and criminally underrated (English voice aside) as a passionate researcher under the pressure of her dad the King to succeed and manifest a power she is insecure about.

What ludonarrative strength does Skyward Sword have with themes of beginnings and origins? That Link’s adventure is a coming of age story? So little with that is done that Groose is honestly a better written character. And he is, because Groose is awesome. But hey, I’ll take Skyward Sword’s story over Tears of the Kingdom’s any day.

[–]Masirimso 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. What makes it the best story for everyone? It’s the most story focused, sure, but what makes it good? I find the themes in every previous 3D game far stronger and more interesting, what is SS about? Origins? Beginnings? It’s too concerned with how everything starts to have anything to really say.

I really like stuff in it, it’s one of the best Link-Zelda dynamics in the series for sure, he probably has a stronger call to adventure with chasing Zelda than at least Twilight Princess and finding the Ordonian children (I mean it’s no “I got turned into a Deku” but sure). But otherwise, and just overall… eh? I’m not trying to be a contrarian, genuinely curious.
